"Hogwarts is hidden from Muggle eyes. The castle is bewitched so that if a Muggle looks at it, all they see is a moldering old ruin with a sign over the entrance saying DANGER, DO NOT ENTER, UNSAFE." - HP Lexicon.

However, to the Wizarding Eye, one will come upon the front Entrance Gate and pass between twin pillars each topped by a winged boar. The grounds are extensive. The castle proper is set upon a cliff overlooking the lake to the south, the front doors facing west.

Sloping lawns lead from the door of the castle to the lake; a wide, flat lawn occupies the space between the castle and the forest. Any number of trees and spots in which groups, couples and individuals can relax can be found upon the grounds.

Entrance and Lawns Expanding from north to west is a mixture of leveled and sloped lawns with several paths cutting the lawn in patches. One can perceive the Quidditch Pitch to the North, reach the lake via a small path made over time down the borders, walk to Hogsmeade via the main path or travel down an ivy bordered trail to a small stone beach at the base of the cliff. Greenhouses Home to most Herbology classes, six greenhouses sit parallel to each other under the sun in the western side of the castle. Forbidden Forest A dark stain to the east of Hogwarts, any student found approaching the edge of the forest will find themselves held off by the groundskeeper Hagrid, who lives in the small hut nearby. Howls and other sounds can be heard in this general direction at night. Serious consequences awaits those eager to tip toe into the forbidden realm of this forest.
