The problem was always the same at Halloween : how to get the maximum milage out of the least costume. It was thinking about her boyfriend that finally gave her the idea though. Historical, easy, and a little bit outrageous. Nell Gwyn.
Her skirt was long and full, accenting her hips nicely, as well as giving her plenty of freedom. Dark green with a tea towel charmed to make her apron in front. The blouse was a short sleeved shirt with charms all over the place, mostly in the front to give it a good, low neckline, tucked under the corset-tight bodice that did such a fine job of showing off her assets. Around her neck, as if to make the point, was a light chain that had started the evening as a boot-lace, charmed to hold the little orange flower pendant. On her hip she carried her basket of oranges, provided by the House Elves with much chattering and giggling.
If Charles II was here, she knew she would catch his eye. the western was, what other eyes would she catch?
She smiled to herself as she looked at the decorations. Alright, she might not fit into the Arabian Nights, but she was going to have fun.

He hadn't been at all sure about going this year, let alone what he was going to wear. What was the point, when the girl he was interested in was very likely going to be impossible to find. And how would he impress her even if he found her? He'd just look stupid in almost anything...
And then he remembered the Kay Nielsen illustration from the old Muggle fairy story book Dad had. The costume would be pretty easy, just adapt his school clothes. Shrinking spell for the trousers; bit of work on the cloak; add some frills to a shirt front.. Easy peasy. He got an old pointer out of one of the classrooms and charmed that to look like a sword. The hair would be easy enough, too. Just a little adjustment on the length and a bit more curl.. white makeup and red lipstick and a touch of pink on the cheeks and a little charm work for the face... and Bob's your uncle, he was Prince Charming.
Striding up to the entrance he was a bit uncertain, though. What if he actually got the wrong girl? Oh, who cares, it's just a laugh. No harm done, even if they ended up snogging for half the night. Finding himself near the end of the crowd going in, he bowed to the nearest female and said, "Prince Charming at your Service, Miss." And with that, he made his way toward the buffet.

She got the idea more or less out of desperation, but the more she thought about it, the better she liked it. Last year she and been a fairy, and gotten a lot of grief over it. (Including one older girl who Informed her that fairies didn't wear clothes and she should be naked.) It's amazing what people will tease you over.
So she went through the list of truly naff ideas that her classmates we're talking about and picked out the Black Cat. Then she added white, and made it a skunk. She started giggling as soon as she had the idea, so it must have been the right one.
A regulation Kitties costume of black tights, black turtleneck sweater, black pussie-cat ears and domino mask had been altered with two big white stripes down the back, white tummy, and super fluffy black and white tail.
And just to make sure she wasn't given any grief, she'd managed to get ahold of two dung-bombs to add the finishing touch, if she needed to make a point.

Falmouth Falcon Beater
If he'd thought about it, he wouldn't have worn this particular costume. But seriously, beyond the first laugh at the idea, he hadn't thought much at all.
Besides, Quidditch players were popular at Halloween. It was an easy enough costume to get. All you had to do was send an owl and some cash to Quality Quidditch, and there you were: complete costume. Then do a spell or two, to change your hair color, and slap on a mask, and you were good to go. The bat was easy; there were loads of one's down in the locker rooms. And if a particular player from a certain team was in the news, that made it topical, right?
Where was the harm?
Besides, the Falcons had two beaters like everybody else. He could be Sioni What'sisname.

She couldn't remember what gave her the idea. Maybe it was sitting idly in the Transformation class, just watching the woman. Her precise movements, her stern manner, her soft Scottish accent, her strong will.. and the long green velvet dress. The hair, forced to obey her iron will, tied back into a bun without a single strand escaping.
"I'll be she was a right terror, back in the day," she thought. And that's what decided her.
Her costume was a mass of spells, spells to color her hair, spells to turn her school robes that shimmery crow's feather green/black. The crumpled witch's hat, (three spells to get that right) the plaid shawl over her shoulders (just an ordinary scarf in real life) the buckled shoes, and the sprinkling of ginger cat's für around her clothes. She'd had to borrow a friend's spare glasses to spell into shape: square half-lenses to look over, wire rims ,earpieces wrapped around her ears. She wondered if McGonagall would be amused or outraged.
