It was good to have someone talking. Rue was the only other person in Caitlin's life right now who would talk up a storm without making Caitlin feel as if she needed to respond in some manner. Happily she kept up the tea and the biscuits until Sabrina had run out of talking about her time in Italy and then it clearly seemed to be the time to turn to Caitlin. A slight frown tugged at her mouth, but she knew that it was time to try and explain things to Sabrina. If she could.

The mention of the deaf-and-dumb hand language had Caitlin frowning again. Thing was, Grandmammy had made such a suggestion, but Caitlin didn't see the point. This couldn't be permanent, no matter what the healers said. This would work itself out in time; what was the point, therefore, in learning a whole new language.

"So, do you have any special hand-signs you use with your family? Thumbs up? Bunny-hover? That kind of thing? 'Cause if not, you and I are going to invent some."

No. She didn't. She gave a shake of her head. the basics - signals all knew - those were all she used. Mason didn't care and Gavin knew her thoughts without her hardly ever needing to say. Mum kept up a steady stream and daddy - daddy just let her curl up on the couch to watch the telly together. Grandmammy was the most interested in trying to get Caitlin to commuincate, but as Grandmammy was only seen on Sundays, she didn't get that much sway in the everyday life of Caitlin.

She gave Sabrina a roll of her eyes and a shrug. Honestly, even if she did learn how to use proper sign language, what would it matter? None of her friends knew it.
