“Er, what?”

She shook her head. Nevermind. She was too focused on the horses now. She raised a brow as he talked about them like it was nothing. She shook his head. There was more to ffleurberts family than he was letting on. Boarding horses? That was just bloody brilliant! “Maybe I could be one of those stable girls?” she said with a grin. “Then I would get the horses and you!” Oh, she was brilliant! Ava nodded her head as though agreeing with herself, which was what she was in fact doing. What she did for fun probably didn’t sound as fun as his horses, but still, she enjoyed it.

Ava was talking about her cousin’s place. “They have a pond that we play in…we go for walks…play at the beach….”

“Oh splendid!”

“It is quite splendid,” she told him, grinning. “It’s no horses but I’ve made good memories.” And that’s what was important. Some memories she tried to ignore and others she relished in, like those moments where her and her cousin and brother would end up wrestling in the pond until they were so cold they couldn’t feel their fingers.

But her and Gorm and Theo left her mind quickly as ffleurbert started to describe his relationship with Millie. It sort of made her feel sad because she was just getting to know ffleurbert and Millie had known him most of her life.

“I say, you’re not jealous are you?”

She ducked her head. “Nooo,” she said, dragging the word out before peeking up at him and then kissing him full on the lips. “Okay, maybe a little bit. But I’m dating you, not her, so I guess that means something,” she teased, resting her head on his chest. She giggled.
