"Why on earth would I lie about it being negative?"

He narrowed his eyes toward her. It wasn’t so much that he thought she was lying as he wanted to see it for himself, and that he wanted her to just do what he said. Which was asking a lot from Espa.

With her out of the way, he swept into the bathroom and saw for himself the negative sign. Kaleb scowled and reentered the bedroom in time to hear his wife’s next words.

“If I were going to lie, I would tell you it was positive to make you happy, my love."

“Well, my love, we’ll just take this as a small setback.” Moving toward Espa, he took the brush from her hand and started to brush her hair himself. After a few minutes of that, he gathered her hair in one hand and tugged, gently for once, until her chin was tipped and she was looking at him.

“The children are asleep. No time like right now to make sure the next time it’s positive.” He bent low and kissed her strong and hard, determined to not have to wait any longer for his wife to be pregnant.
