"Count yourself lucky then," Daniel commented after Brigitte told him she didn't run across his brother. He did wonder briefly if Ashby and Brigitte did go head to head, who'd come out the victor?

. “You do remember I was held back, don’t you?”

No, he hadn't remembered. Was it common knowledge? She seemed annoyed or sarcastic or maybe a little bit of both over the matter. Apparently, that little aspect of her life still stung a little. Honestly, she could've shown up naked to class the whole year that first year and he would've never known. His world was a lot smaller then he cared to really think about. It was like he was living in a bubble where people skimmed the edges. Or maybe everyone felt like this, he didn't know.

Even if Brigitte repeating a year had been a big point of gossip, he doubt he would've remembered. He was completely stressed that first year. He had almost quit during Christmas break. The only thing that prevented him was knowing that being with his mother all year would be far worse.

. “Potions is my one saving grace. And that’s just barely.” She shrugged. “I had a good tutor. But it doesn’t matter, nothing beats being held back.”

Daniel was pretty sure that he did know something that beat being held back. Yet, he wasn't going to pull out the blind card. He liked to think of it more like an inconvenience like a head cold. No point in talking about it or complaining about it either. It never changed anything.

"Divinations and History of Magic are mine, although that's not saying much. You can possibly talk to Flitwick, you know. He'll probably be able to pick out a charm for you to use to produce music," he suggested. Daniel, for the most part, liked to be helpful. Maybe that was the Hufflepuff in him. If he sort out one person's problems then it seemed like he was actually useful at times.

"I can keep on looking though. Maybe stumble upon something," he told her, his mouth quirking a little at the small little joke. There had to be some good information out there on music production. That might actually help him hear a piece of music before he started putting it to memory.
