Godfrey seemed distracted but that was oaky, Mack was distracted too. Though Godfrey distracted would hopefully work in her favor. Of course, though, it didn’t last that long and Godfrey was able to fully realize what she was saying.

“Hang on.. they.. Who? Your work? They want you..when?”

“Work. In the field.” She was grinning. That was what she loved. She loved her children. She loved Godfrey. She loved them more than she ever thought she would be able to. But work…it completed her. Mack was not passionate about much, but curse breaking was one of them.

“You can’t go,”

The grin instantly fell. “What?” she said, her voice hard and her eyes narrowing.

“….I can’t take any time off. Not now. You.. That whole time when Thomas was born just about wiped me out, and I’m barely starting to get some contracts now. I can’t drop everything now. I just can’t.”

Mack put down the papers she had been looking at and rounded the table so that she was closer to Godfrey. “Say that again,” she dared, staring right into his eyes. “I am going, Godfrey. You know how bad I have been waiting for this. It’s not like I’m staying there for a weeks upon weeks. I’ll do it like last time.” She could go for a week and then come back for a couple of weeks. She wasn’t going to abandon her family, but she was going to do this.
