Her pain made Tucker's own heart ache. He'd often been teased by Pete and Joel for being a girl, but he couldn't help it. Perhaps it was the death of his father at such a young age, but he'd taken on the pain of everyone in the family and held it for them without thought. It was how he handled his own pain. And so, as T.J. finally turned and looked up at him, her pain nearly knocked him down. Instead, he listened. He didn't argue it with her or contradict her; he didn't agree with her, though. But, he didn't argue it. There was never a point in arguing with someone who was so solidly sure of their own beliefs.

He drew her into his arms as her words came to a close and just held her tight. His heart thudded hard in his chest as he did. There was just so much pain and so much lost in this witch and it wasn't fair. He'd not say that out loud, because he was sure it wouldn't be a help to her, but he could feel it.

"I think," he finally said, still holding her, "I think that everyone who judges you by anything but your heart and your soul is stupid. Stupid and unkind and just flat out mean as hell." He didn't go on to tell her she was beautiful; she made it clear what she thought and he wouldn't push those limits at the moment.
