"Half. I'm sure it'll be fine, so far as babies go."

Right. Pippa had the uneasy feeling that she just stumbled on a topic that might be an untouchable one. Even if he had been the one to bring it up. She wondered why Walt thought to declare the distinction of the baby being half. That probably meant that one half of the couple of that she had seen with Walt at Hogsmeade was either his stepmom or stepdad. She wondered if the fact that his parents weren’t together was the part that embarrassed him. It wasn’t like her parents were going to win any parent of the year contests. Her parents were experts in ignoring each other making Pippa always wonder why they had even gotten married in the first place.

"No, right, right. The blind date thing. That'll probably be...fun. You should go. Enjoy it. Talking point, right?"

"Probably," she agreed. Well, so much for asking her out. Maybe he was just leading up to it? Then again, he might not have had anything planned. She took a sip of chocolate waiting for him to continue.

"Damn Pip, just maybe don't enjoy it too much?"

Well, that was unexpected.

Something about his tone just raised her heckles. She frowned at the boy. Pippa put down the scone she was eating so she wouldn’t be tempted to chuck it at his head. The blind date thing was just supposed to be a bit of fun, that’s all, for charity. Nothing romantic or anything like that. All just nonsense really. Why was Walt acting like that?

“Oh I’m sorry,” she could help sarcasm from dripping in her voice. “Here I was going to snog the boy senseless but since you are now dictating the amount of enjoyment I can have, well I guess that’s all off the table.”

She hadn’t really given the whole blind date thing much thought, but she was pretty sure that it wouldn’t lead to a peck on the lips, much less a snog. Still, she did want to have fun. Why would anyone go into a date with a mindset of not having fun?
