Walt still didn't know what he had done wrong, but he imagined that inviting her to snog anyone she wanted to would only add fuel to the fire, and he rather wished he hadn't added that bit in.

“I’m not some dimwitted floozy who throws herself at some bloke just because it’s some stupid blind date,”

"I didn't say that!"  He protested, pulling his fingers down the bridge of his nose in agitation.  "I don't think that you are!"    He stood, mostly because she was standing, and came halfway round to her side of the table.  He was frowning (did she really think him the sort of person who would say that?)  but he'd unconsciously raised his hands just slightly, palms out.  Walt's characteristic I don't want to fight pose.

"I don't even know what we're fighting about."  He added, obviously exasperated.

“And the only one I want to snog senseless is you, Walter Munro, if you must know!"

If he hadn't been flabbergasted before he certainly was now.  "I-"  Weren't they fighting?  Weren't they in their pajamas?  He blinked a few times, and very nearly asked her is she was really sure.

He was most of the way round to her side, anyway, and he wasn't at all certain how to back track back over to his hot chocolate.  She was still glaring at him, in her night clothes, which was both rather alluring and absolutely terrifying, as if she might just bite him if he even tried to kiss her.

He wasn't going to snog her senseless in front of the house elves, and he wasn't stupid enough to imagine she meant him to.  Nor was he going to rush her out of the kitchen to find a closet, although the mental image did form briefly in his mind.  Instead he pressed his lips together briefly and dared to raise a hand to her cheek.  Her skin was soft under his thumb.  "I'm sorry."  He said.  The apology was much easier to get out this time around.  "I'm obviously an idiot.  Don't tell, I'll be cast out from the tower and have to sleep in the hallway."

And then he did kiss her, carefully, carefully at first, as if she might still take it back, or off him, or feed him to a Lion.
