Kate found herself hoping that Mister Christopher Lemon's sound proof office eventually came back to bite him in the butt.  She did not care for his stuffy patronizing attitude in the least, nor was she impressed with the way he was trying to warn her about her husband.

"Well don't you seem mighty proud of the fact that you're a business man.  You don't want me to mix up my emotions and business--which would make for pretty dry singing, actually.  And yet you've seen fit from the very beginning to ask me very personal questions about my reasons for coming here.  I've never had a reason to be a private person.  If there's something you want to know you should ask."

And I admit to having some curiosity. As you know—or, I suppose, as you will soon find out—your husband is not exactly forthcoming with information. Not even to old friends.”

"I'm afraid I don't understand you.  Are you friends with my husband? Do you have some grudge against him?  I would hope that my friends would not speak as poorly about me as you do about your friends."  She eyed the contract infront of her.  She did like the idea of having a long standing singing engagement, but she was not anxious to take it out of pity.
