He hadn't been at all sure about going this year, let alone what he was going to wear. What was the point, when the girl he was interested in was very likely going to be impossible to find. And how would he impress her even if he found her? He'd just look stupid in almost anything...

And then he remembered the Kay Nielsen illustration from the old Muggle fairy story book Dad had. The costume would be pretty easy, just adapt his school clothes. Shrinking spell for the trousers; bit of work on the cloak; add some frills to a shirt front.. Easy peasy. He got an old pointer out of one of the classrooms and charmed that to look like a sword. The hair would be easy enough, too. Just a little adjustment on the length and a bit more curl.. white makeup and red lipstick and a touch of pink on the cheeks and a little charm work for the face... and Bob's your uncle, he was Prince Charming.

Striding up to the entrance he was a bit uncertain, though. What if he actually got the wrong girl? Oh, who cares, it's just a laugh. No harm done, even if they ended up snogging for half the night. Finding himself near the end of the crowd going in, he bowed to the nearest female and said, "Prince Charming at your Service, Miss." And with that, he made his way toward the buffet.
