Jane didn’t trust Connor, and she didn’t like him either. Before, when they were team members and he was in pursuit of Gloria she tolerated him, because it seemed the right thing to do. But his attitude toward her had always been condescending and dismissive. The more he bothered Gloria the more Jane disliked him. Then this past year he had been increasingly hostile and useless as a captain and she was gad to have him off the team. Why should she even listen to anything he had to say?

“I won't need that much time," he assured her.

“Good.”

"I," he started, huffing a light breath and the trying again.

Jane waited.

"I want to apologize. For what I did. For...hexing you.”

“What?” That was the last thing she had expected. And she didn’t believe a word of it. Jane watched his face carefully as he continued. He was lying.

“I have no excuse for it. You don't have to forgive me, but I wanted to apologize."

She still didn’t believe it. This was probabaly Dumbledore’s idea. And it was a good idea, in principle. The trouble was he didn’t mean it and she didn’t believe it. Still, she was damned if she was going to let him come out of this looking like the repentant peacemaker.

“Fair enough,” She said slowly. “Apology accepted.” She wouldn’t say anything about forgivness.

She smiled slightly. “I’ll tell you what, Connor. I won’t pretend I like you, and you’ve gone out of your way to make it clear that you detest me. But I vote we  declare a truce.” She paused. “You stay away from me and I’ll stay away from you.  I’ll go even further. I won’t interfere in any way between you and Gloria. If she asks me anything, I’ll tell her the absolute truth, but I won’t run you down in any way. Otherwise, I won’t even mention you. All you have to do is leave me alone. I figure you owe me that much for not mentioning …. anything.”

She held out her hand. “Deal?”
