Madam Pomfrey had ordered Primrose to stay in her dormitory for twenty four hours.  Prim followed those instructions faithfully.  She only left the dormitory to fetch herself a little quick supper that night, and the next morning she got some breakfast, which she ate while walking around between the tables instead of actually sitting down and touching everything.  Of course she avoided classes, as instructed, only running down to grab her cello so that she could practice during the day when she got frustrated with a difficult chord combination on her Stratocaster.  She had to rifle through the Common room to find a new quidditch magazine and read that by the fire while all the younger students were in class, because the dormitory was uncommonly cold lately.  It occurred to Prim that she ought to use this time for catching up on her homework, but if she was getting sick she ought not strain her mind, should she?  By the time her peers started returning to the tower, she was bored silly and made her usual rounds to visit everyone and to catch up on the gossip and to hear how Connor was feeling.  He’d not been back from the Infirmary yet, it seemed, and Primrose felt a little nervous over the condition of her boyfriend.  Madam Pomfrey could certainly sort him out, but she didn’t like that it was taking a whole DAY.  He must be very ill indeed.

After so much rest, Prim spent the next day rubbing her eyes all through classes, until she felt more and more tired and a silent cough began deep in her chest.  When she didn’t feel like eating dinner and Connor still wasn’t back, she wandered slowly up to the Infirmary, unsure of whether she was going to check on him, or to check on herself.  Somehow that visit turned into a sleepover.  Instead of going back to her own bed, Prim was outfitted with a bed in the Hospital Wing and dosed with potions and handed a bell to jingle if she needed help.  She jingled the bell a lot, just because she was lonely, and she watched Connor making sleepy sad faces over Chase’s girlfriend nearby, but mostly she stared at the ceiling and coughed and wondered whether she had the energy to sneak out to her own dormitory when Pomfrey wasn’t looking.
