She laughed at his uncertainty, somewhat pleased with herself and her own ability to make other people squirm. Not a lot, and not in a malicious way, of course, but it certainly was fun to watch others tilt a little off balance. She, herself, didn't like to be off balance, but luckily it took a lot to push her that far.

"You're welcome," she said, disentangling herself from his returned hug. He smelled nice. "Sit down," she urged, leaning against the wall and grabbing his hand as she slid down to the floor.

"Ahh well you see, I sort of had to. I mean, what if you didn't get anything, you would tell everyone at school what a horrible seer I was,"

"Ah, yes, I do have a full working knowledge of the rumor mill. There's a group of third year Gryffindor girls... I swear, you mention in their presence that you saw a boy and a girl talking to one another after class, and within three hours- I've timed it- the whole school thinks they're secretly engaged and planning to run off to Aruba or something on the next Hogsmeade weekend.

"Just imagine what they could do to you, poor Danny. But don't worry, your good reputation is safe in my hands." She selected one she thought was a caramel and couldn't help but make a face when it turned out to be one of those overly-sweet ones with the purple inside.

"Eat this one, I don't like it," she said, holding it up to his mouth for him to take. "That's the problem with chocolates- not that I don't appreciate them, oh I do- you think you're getting one thing and it turns out to be exactly the opposite. But I guess that's a lot of the fun, too."

"So does this mean your mum is going to send me a howler for corrupting you with chocolate?"

"If anything, she'll send me one," Lydia giggled. "She's not the type to send a howler to a person until she's met them and likes them enough to take the time to be concerned. But if she ever met you, she'd send you one.

"Besides, what she doesn't know, she can't get mad over, right?"
