Emmeline again sat in silence, eyes clouded and blank as she stared straight ahead of her. In a moment she spoke again. "No, I'm not. I'm not..." She ducked her head, looking down at the quill twirling between her fingertips. Dark hair fell over her face, hiding any traces of emotion that might have flitted across it. "...Feeling much of anything at all, really."

Under normal circumstances, she would've recoiled at her own frankness and vulnerability. It had always been a habit of hers to keep all emotions tucked neatly away out of sight, hidden from others as well as she could manage. But keeping up appearances just seemed so pointless right now. There was no use being embarassed.
