Against all odds, Emmeline actually felt laughter bubbling up from her throat. She smiled a little, sniffling and wiping at her eyes delicately.

"I-I don't think...I'm ready for that yet...But I'll stop crying in just a moment, I promise." Still, she kept her clinging hold on him, cuddling gratefully into this more comfortable position.

Sobering a bit, she followed Grady's gaze to the flickering fire. "You know..." she murmured, "you're the first person to actually talk to me about it. I think everyone else is a bit afraid of the whole thing. I feel so...outcast. Oh, I know that's silly of me. It's just...I don't know."
