Michelle waited a bit anxiously for Lukes response to the little candy-producing card, but suddenly he paused in the midst of opening it and produced a little red box which he handed over to her with such a cute little grin that she couldnt help but smile back at him as she took it from his hand. It turned out to contain an assortment of candies, each slightly different, which made Michelle smile even more. Thank you, she said quietly. Candy was such a perfectly traditional Valentines Day gift, and Michelle was unaccountably pleased that shed received it on her first such holiday with a boy.

"I didn't get a card for you," he added.

And I only got you a card. Does that make us even?

It was then that Luke held up the first candy heart for her to read, and asked her if it was true. Shed known in advance there could be some potential for embarrassing comments like that considering the mushy sentiments that were generally found on candy hearts, and she had steeled herself for it before shed arrived. Was he cute?

Occasionally, she told him with a wry smile. When you behave yourself.

Michelle felt a great deal of relief when Luke ate the candy and didnt make any sort of disgusted face at the taste. She really had been worried that the strawberry flavor wouldnt come out right. Strawberry seemed like the right Valentines Day flavor, being pink and all, but it was rather more difficult to produce than shed expected.

When he opened it again and picked up another candy, Michelle felt a nervous flutter in her stomach at the way he was smirking over it. And what he said rather cemented the fact that it must be one of the more embarrassing phrases. She really ought to have sorted through the bag and culled those out before she cast the spell. Michelle quickly ran through all of the phrases that she could think of, picking out the ones that might make him eye her like that. Finally, she decided that he must have gotten the Kiss Me one. It was the only message that made sense, considering what hed said.

Later, perhaps, she told him. You wouldnt want to make a scene.
