A tear slipped over, and she lowered her eyes from his again. She dashed it away quickly, searching for a handkerchief. He didn't understand; she had had the opportunity to get away, but she thought she would be all right.

He pushed up the sleeve gingerly once more, giving her a soft look, catching her eyes which were still full of pain yet infinitely hollow.
