This was why he'd not wanted to take on an intern again; they were young, snot-nosed know-it-alls. Last year it had been that Sirius Black bloke with his arrogance seeping from his pores like sweat off a rhino's back; oh, and not to forget Jacquie who had become nothing more or less than a thorn in his side at every painful turn. Even down to the newest twist in that story, her living next door to him.

Jezebel seemed determined to make her own mark this go around, as well.

"No, Miss Bain, I don't view my collegues as idiots. We're a team and we all need to do our own part," he said, the words falling from him with a rote sound to them. He didn't, in truth, view the majority of his collegues as idiots. Just a choice view. Leathan Collier for one. Of course, he wasn't about to admit to that outloud; his views on that particular Field Agent were clouded over with jealousy over a girl, afterall.

"Why don't you just give 'em some Veritaserum and watch 'em sing like canaries?"

His brow shot up at that and he studied her in silence for a moment. How many times had he asked for the right to do just that? Give them Veritaserum; best way to handle the criminal sect, afterall.

He rubbed at his forearm again.

"Ministry rules. Last time it was used was years back. There's a whole load of rules and regulations that allow us to do, or not do, stuff. Veritaserum is used only in the most extreme of cases. And even then, it's a fight to get the rights for it.

"Now," he pointed at the case file she held, "today we're looking through a case file on a man named Lamont Hullings. Joetta," he waved in the general direction of the field agent's cubicle, "is apprehending him today in connection with a string of murders that appear to be done through the use of some type of illegally made potion. I'm sure you're curious as to why it's not being handled by the Hit Wizards, yes? Give me two reasons why it would be handled by Aurors, instead."
