"I don't know," he admitted. "Caught me at a bad time?" He gave a harsh laugh. "Lousy excuse. I know. 'Lys..." Elphais explained in regards to her question just as his drink arrived.

A few moments later hers came as well and she downed it too. She began to play with the ends of her hair, the man sitting across from her obviously felt as awkward as she did and she wondered exactly what it was that he was working up the courage to say.

"'Lys...what was it about him that drew you in? Didn't you sense it? What he was inside? Did he really fool you?"

Why did he want to talk about this? She went to look at the expression in his eyes but found him concentrating hard on his shot glass. A small smile played on her lips.

"No. I mean... I knew something was going on. I thought he was cheating on me." she said with a derisive snort in regards to her husbands hit man career. She shook her head, but then the wry smile in her eyes faded to sadness. "I thought I could... help him, change him maybe. But.. he tried to kill me instead. I thought he loved me." she with a shrug, she was now concentrating just as hard at the woodwork of the table as Elphais was on his glass.

"I sometimes begin to wonder if there is such a thing as love... or if it is only a fantasy fools chase."
