Lucius wasnt waiting for a particular cue to stand up and describe his job; he simply didnt wish to be the first or last to do so. And thus, when a brief pause in the speeches arrived, he rose languidly from the comfort of his chair, sending a cold sweep of his emotionless eyes across the interns that had gathered at the table. Hed been in their place before, although his meeting had been one-on-one, and with an ease matched only by the grace of his form he recalled the words his mentor had spoken to him.

I am Lucius Malfoy, he began, voice quiet yet strong. and like Mr. Avery I work in the Department of International Magical Cooperation. I serve our department as an ambassador to the French magical government, and no doubt most of you feel a yawn building in response. Luciuss eyes flashed, hardening with a brightness that spoke of hidden secrets and concealed plots. On the surface, my fellow ambassadors and I might seem to have fairly easy jobs: travel to another country, sit on that governments council, enjoy the view and hear complaint after complaint, offering justice where your duties permit it. We must deal with those who feel dissatisfaction with the British Minister, for the ones that approve never seem to have the time to make an appointment, and understand that there will be more the next day. Patience is indeed a virtue in this position. But there is a deep trust that is grown between ambassadors and their contacted governments, and often in history have ambassadors become advisors.

As an ambassador you will gain knowledge that not half the officials of the contacted government have access to. We deal with matters of international security right alongside of the standard complaints, and it is my office that, in the past, has been the trigger or buffer against wars. As an ambassador you will handle paperwork, but you will also deal it, ensuring that the interests of your home Ministry are respected in the foreign country. You will become the chief source of information dealing with your foreign government. Or, one of you will, at any rate. Luciuss gaze snapped directly to Charles. While the rest of you are off gallivanting with the Aurors and their companion departments, one lucky individual will be learning secrets that would make even the strongest willed of our stalwart warriors quail in terror.

He allowed a final sweep of his eyes to cross the room, and in that brief moment of silence Lucius offered a shallow bow, and settled back into his chair once more. That was how you made a political speech. Let the Aurors take notes.
