She didn't realize she had been holding her breath.

Not that he had any reason to not respond in a good way to her question. Honestly, the boy had even asked her the same. Well, respectively speaking. Which is why she felt safe enough to ask him in the first place. She wanted the upper hand in this, or something like that. She wanted things to go her way, at her pace. And this seemed like the best way.

She held her breath until he said yes. It was then that the wince part of her smile disappeared. Good. Good.

"Guess this means I've got to take you somewhere nice," she said in a low voice, the sounds coming from the back of her throat as his mouth neared hers again.

"Wait," she said, pulling from him for a moment. "Tell me your news now." It could have waited until later, of course, but she wanted to know. And it gave her a chance to toe her shoes off, because, really, there was nothing romantic about shoes on a couch. Not that she was OCD at all.
