It was very rare that River finished work early in the afternoon. In fact, quite often she was at the Daily Prophet office after dinner time, finishing up stories and chasing up leads. One of the unfortunate things about being the foreign affairs correspondant was that you often kept the same times as the people you were writing about. People didn't care what time it was were you were when you called them, only what time it was where they were. But today, River had finished early. Her stories were done and submitted for editting, which she knew there wouldn't be alot of. There rarely was.

And so, River had decided to celebrate this momentous occassion with beer, one of the best ways to celebrate in her opinion. She knew that Darby would be finished training by now and be home, and more than willing to share atleast a couple of beers with her. And if not she would just take her beer to Josh and Leath and make them celebrate with her. After all, one should not celebrate with just themselves and beer. It was boring.

The carton of beer balanced against her hip, River unlocked the door to her relatively new apartment and pushed it open, not looking around as she walked in, trying to pull her keys out of the door and not drop the beer, the latter being far more important of course. "Darb? You home kitten? I have beer, and the afternoon off and there is much cause to celebrate..." She kind of tapered off as she lowered the beer out of her eyesight level and realised that not only was Darby here, but he had a girl here.

Now Darby had never mentioned a girlfriend. It didn't really bother her too much. Sure, he was hot, but she liked living here, and sex had the unfortunate habit of ruining easy friendships like the one they had. And also, it stood to reason that if she didn't know about the girlfriend, it was likely that the girlfriend didn't know about her. "Maybe I should take my beer upstairs and see if the boys are home?"
