Workshop # 3

B: Boggart - What is your character's greatest fear? What would their boggart be? What is the reason for this?

Desmonds worst fear is being locked up in a small, dark space; especially one that makes silence seem absolute and the darkness eternal. The boggart transforming into a gaping chasm of darkness or the shadow that loomed over him before he was knocked unconscious the night he was kidnapped would do very nicely. He was kept in a small room when he was kidnapped and very, very bad memories are associated with such places. Seeing that shadow was scary too, especially since it, more often than not, comes with the memory of pain.

E: Mirror of Erised - What does your character desire most in this world? Why is that? Are they aware that this is what they most want or would they be surprised by this?

Desmond, for all his indecision, wants a secure future; a job he enjoys and a home with a wife and a number of kids. His parents are happy with the choices they made and seem content with what they have. His brothers too, seem to have some sort of plan when it comes to what they want to do for the rest of their lives. As the third son, he doesnt really have any obligation towards his fathers title or his fathers business since his brothers take care of that. He feels left out in that aspect. On some level of his consciousness, Desmond does know that he wants this for himself but some times, it really is hard for him to see the road clear in front of him.

D: Dementor - What would they relive under a Dementor's gaze? Their worst memory. How does this affect them today, if it does?

This ones easy. Desmonds worst memory would be the four months he spent in captivity. Under the Dementors gaze, hed definitely relive snippets of those dreadful moments when he was manhandled and mistreated. Almost everything about him today is a result of his experience. He asked for archery lessons to improve his aim with a wand, he doesnt take things for granted and makes the most of life when he can, he regards magic as his ammunition against any further instances where he could be taken by force, even his irrational fear of closed spaces and the way hes peeved by someone peering over his shoulder is a result of his kidnapping incident.

P: Patronus - What would protect them? Remember, this should be an animal.

Desmonds Patronus would be a wolf. He, much like the wolf, is a social and communicative creature. Desmond can be both playful and protective when he deals with those he cares about. It helps that he is used to dealing with social hierarchy and respectfully gives those of higher rank their due. Too, he wouldnt mind if he was either solitary or in a pack and he knows hed never compromise the identity of the pack (pack, being a metaphor for his family most of the time).
