The BEDP Test

B: Boggart - What is your character's greatest fear? What would their boggart be? What is the reason for this?

Most of all Alex fears coming home to find his father has enrolled him in the Marines. All of Alex's life he's heard about what a disappointment he is, being magical rather than military, and he knows that Jack's goal in life for his sons is for them to have a decorated military career that takes up where his left off. His Boggart, might therefore be himself in the uniform of the Marines.

E: Mirror of Erised - What does your character desire most in this world? Why is that? Are they aware that this is what they most want or would they be surprised by this?

If Alex got past his obstinance and analysed what has shaped him, he would grudgingly come up with his parents' pride and love as what he most desires in the world. A few years ago, this would most likely be the case, yet seventeen year old Alex seems to have grown out of this desire, or at least it has been replaced by another. What he would actually see in the mirror would be himself, lovely lady beside him, a thick and prize-winning Arithmancy tome underneath his arm with himself listed as the author.

This means, of course, that he desires to accomplish much in his life, and for such accomplishments to overshadow those of his brothers.

D: Dementor - What would they relive under a Dementor's gaze? Their worst memory. How does this affect them today, if it does?

Alex has a fair few terrible memories to select from, but the worst one would have to be the time his father broke his arm in three places. He was six years old, and Leo had performed an impressive act of accidental magic that caused slime to ooze from the ceiling. Jack Dawson arrived home, stepping into the living room to view a complete and utter mess, and Leo immediately named Alex as the culprit. Needless to say, Jack was furious and such a strong man was almost lethal to the tiny Alex.

P: Patronus - What would protect them? Remember, this should be an animal.

A woodpecker. An unusual Patronus, maybe, but in essence Alex's circumstances have meant he does not view situations in the same light as others. Like a woodpecker, he is an opportunist. Both Alex and the woodpecker defend their territory aggressively- the bird it's environment, and Alex his past and privacy.
