Gail Haddock Hufflepuff-1981 Worth the Effort
Gail didn't think about Grant's back very often. Most of the time she forgot that he even had a back - or, forgot that he had scars there, anyway. She hadn't given it the least thought when she touched him. . . not until a moment afterward, when he was taking his hand out from under her skirt and she'd had a chance to take notice of the difference in his skin. She could never tell if he liked it or not, when she touched his back. He never acted like it hurt him, but he didn't seem to get very excited about it either, so Gail generally found herself paying more attention to other parts of him, unsure. This time, though, with her own clothes pooled on the floor and Grant's hands roaming, it seemed like the thing to do, and Gail let her fingers explore his lower back, experimentally, noting the difference in his skin. She was more interested, though, in the way her breath spread out, hot, along his collarbone, and in the way his fingers pulled a bit of hair from hanging in her face. And the more she concentrated on Grant, the more she sank into him, the less she noticed her hiccups.
She loved when he held her like this. Warm and quiet, with a tenderness that felt like it reached deep inside of her. It was like this in the evenings, when they hogged the sofa and pretended that the rest of Hufflepuff house didn't exist. Except, in the commons they had their clothes on, and too much feeling up wasn't prudent where others could look in on them. It was funny, the difference a little bit of privacy made.
As much as she did like him to hold her, she liked him to kiss her too, and by the time they were happily engaged in that pleasant activity, Gail had forgotten about her hiccups all together as they had disappeared. She didn't notice the sound of Mrs. Norris at first. Or, perhaps she heard it but didn't register just what it was. A frown started on her face when he interrupted things, which turned into a tense drop in her stomach when she saw Mrs. Norris.
Gail clutched the thrown shirt to her chest, taking a step backwards and emitting a soft, high-pitched whine as she panicked. Her bare back bumped into a sink and her hand flew back to grab the edge of it to steady her balance. Fumbling for the edge of the T-shirt, Gail could hear the clanking sound of Filch approaching with whatever apparatus he was dragging along and, in that split second, she gave up trying to get dressed and just flew into the toilet stall, clutching the shirt to her bare chest as she swung the door closed with a creak. She turned the latch and struggled to draw a deep breath as she drew the T-shirt over her head and put it on. The crack at the edge of the door was narrow, and Gail leaned her forehead against it, trying to see where Grant had gone and whether Filch had caught him.
