Devon shimmied up to him, nice and close, feeling as though she could afford to be a bit more uninhibited on this momentous occasion. She hadn't actually gotten him anything for his birthday, so she figured she owed it to him to make her presence the gift. She was sure that's what Teddy would have asked for anyway – he sure hinted at it enough. Of course, it might not have been her presence that he was hoping for, exactly... but she never claimed to be especially generous, so she wasn't planning on giving him any more than he deserved. Frankly, she wasn't sure it would be much of a gift to see her with her clothes off, so really she was doing him a favor.

Devon wasn't a regular drinker, either – really, champagne was the only alcohol she'd ever tried, and she wasn't really impressed with the stuff. She took the bottle without a word, though, merely grinning at him like a fool. She didn't think drinking from the bottle was exactly classy – but, then again, even if they were drinking from crystal, she doubted this evening would ever count as truly classy. She was a little perplexed when he suggested that the stuff burned – was it supposed to? Burned in what way? It made her a little more skeptical about taking a sip than she would have been had he not warned her. “Thank you, sir,” she said with an amused wrinkle of her nose, trying to salvage some class as she, very tentatively, took a sip from the bottle.

Oh, she understood what he meant by 'burn' the second it hit her esophagus. Even with the warning it was kind of shocking – but in an interesting way, not a bad way. It was warm all the way down, and she couldn't help but giggle with giddy amusement. It was, frankly, rather unexpected. If that was mild, she couldn't wait to try the fire whiskey! She was about to hazard another sip of the stuff when he was suddenly jerking away, and then whispering in her ear about some special something.

“That isn't fair!” she exclaimed, glaring at him with amusement in her eyes. “You tell a lady you have something special for her and then don't tell her what? You're a phenomenal tease, Teddy Weiss,” she said, shaking her head and finally taking another sip of the vodka she was holding on to. It didn't feel quite as... shocking... this time. She could appreciate the warmth now that she was expecting it. She still wished she was sipping it from a glass rather than gulping it from a bottle, but she'd manage.

“Don't expect me to do you any favors, darling,” she joked, crossing her legs as she adjusted herself on top of the pile of cushions, throwing a wavy bunch of tresses over her shoulder. Even if they were drinking straight from the bottle at the top of the astronomy tower, she still felt very adult. “And if I get anything fabulous for my birthday tomorrow, I'll be sure to flaunt it for you and share nothing, because that's what you get when you're a tease, darling. You get teased right back,” she laughed, taking another dainty sip.
