Jared never understood teenage girls. Especially not these girls. Anna looked like she was heading to a ball, not a duel. Anaphora seemed angry. Maybe Anna had flirted with Anaphora's boyfriend. Who knew. But dueling had a way of channeling emotions for better or worse.'Spells will tell.' Jared thought to himself.

Anna cast the Pricking Curse with a fancy flourish. Unfortunately the extra flourish must not have agreed with her curse. It started by balling up on the end of her wand  and then with her flick dripped a gooey green Pricking Curse on the floor splashing on her toes and then disappearing.

Anaphora's spell, on the other hand, was confident. A  strong jet of scarlet light burst from Anaphora's wand. But instead of shooting toward Anna it shot straight at Jared himself. Jared used wordless magic to brush-block the charm with his non-wand hand and direct it into the floor. But as he did, he could feel his own magic darken and fail. The disarming charm stung his right hand, ripped the wand from his grip and sent it clattering across the room.

Jared wasn't hurt, but he was surprised. Two epic fails from the fourth years was to be expected, but to have his own magic miss was very unusual. Dueling club was certainly not going as he had planned. Fog of War! He would simply pretend that everything was fine.

"Fine. Now a little more aiming at each other."

Jared hoped someone in the class would retrieve his wand for him. He certainly wasn't going to turn his back on them until they were done dueling. Who knew what the bundles of hormones might do next.
