If Anna had any idea what Professor Burke was thinking about her, she would have stormed out of that classroom in a second flat. True, there were many things that the girl didn't take as seriously as she could have, but this was definitely, definitely not one of those things. Right now she was not flirting or goofing off or trying to be funny – she was excited and she was serious. It was hard to be both at once, and maybe it made her look a bit like a cheerleader, but she didn't feel like one. She felt like she wanted to unleash her passion and let the curses fly!

Apparently that was easier said than done.

Her toes were tingling rather uncomfortably as the curse fizzled out and hit them, which launched her awkwardly onto her tippy-toes to try and shake off the bizarre feeling. It was almost like she'd been sitting on top of her feet and they'd fallen asleep, leaving her with a strange pins-and-needles sensation. Luckily, the other girl's charm hadn't exactly landed, either, making the whole thing more amusing than disappointing. She stifled a little laugh at her own expense “You have got to be kidding me,” she muttered to herself, smirking down accusingly at her wand as if it had played a cruel trick on her. She knew she could do this, after all! If her wand didn't agree, that was another story altogether. She allowed her feet to sit flat on the ground again, even as her toes scrunched up within her trainers.

She wasn't about to give up. She wanted to figure out what had gone wrong. Maybe it  wasn't an extremely innovative second move, but she went about casting the curse again. This time she shouted “Pinctio!” without the flourish that had accompanied it before, having been knocked down a few pegs on the confidence scale after her initial attempt had failed her. In Anna's case, a little humbleness wouldn't hurt.
