Watching her light her cigarette, her boney fingers twitching in an anything but delicate way, the slight flame illuminating some of the angled features of her pale face, Jack couldn’t help but relax his formerly bitter reaction. He remembered who she had been and how she had been a woman he had quite a bit of respect for, and that wasn’t to say he didn’t still have respect for her since he wasn’t sure he could handle being a werewolf and there was something to be said for her even having some ability to cope with such a heavy burden. He agreed that the best test of character could only be conducted during troubled times and though some might think Karina wasn’t doing all that well, Jack knew better. She was still alive and sometimes that was all anyone could ask until more progress could be made.

"And what do you plan to do if I am able to give you the lead you're looking for? You're going to go have some reasonable talk, take the item and tell him to have a good day? My, my, JT. I thought you were one to follow the letter of the law to a closer degree than that."

“You think just a friendly chat will do the trick? Shit, I’ll be on my way then,” he replied with a smile. She probably wasn’t in the mood to joke but the conversation was too serious and he wasn’t going to get anything out of her if she was mad at him. “If you know me at all, you know I’m not stupid enough to assume a friendly chat will get the artifact back,” he paused for a moment, tilting his head to make eye contact with her, “but you also know me well enough to know I’m not goin’ to just kill him to get what he stole.”  He hoped she knew him well enough to know that he might have the reputation of being draw happy, but those with any sense knew he drew his wand only when he felt there was no other way to avoid it. Trying to get her to remember that was possibly the only chance he had at getting her to ease up and to try to trust him.

This ain't no place for the weary kind.
