Caitlin had always believed that when two people broke up it always happened because they hated each other. That it would come with yelling and namecalling and all manner of horridness. What she had never envisioned was for the other to pull her close and just hold her. It made her heart ache all the more; it didn't make her want to change her mind. She still knew that she was lying to him pretty much all the time, even if it wasn't on purpose. That made her ill.

When he let her go, she moved away a bit to feel more comfortable, but then he was presenting her with a necklace and her brows knit hard. She watched the bird swing at the end of the chain as he talked and then looked up at him shaking her head as she did.

"I can't, Sioni. Not...not anymore. And don't go on about it being a gift from a friend, because I know different. I know how you feel, Sioni. I do. But, I don't feel that way and that's why I can't do this. Not anymore," she explained, her courage finally coming to the foreground. "I'm lying to you and it's not fair because I do care about you. And that is the very reason why I can't do this anymore. And...I can't let you give me things. Not now. Maybe later, but not now."

She looked back to the bird and frowned again. "Don't make this harder than it is."
