The moment she heard footsteps Lisette held her breath again, certain that whoever had stepped into the room was the mysterious rose-sender she was supposed to be looking out for. She was so perfectly silent as she crouched in her little nook that she could hear the sound of her own heartbeat. She wasn't really scared, though – she believed enough in her ability to find a good hiding spot and stay hidden that even if it was a murderer she thought she'd probably make it out unscathed. She didn't have to wait long before the perpetrator was visible when she looked up  through the glass.

Connor Young? Really? Lisette thought she was going to gag. He probably just wanted to be Gloria's boyfriend or something. Nobody would want to be Connor Young's girlfriend, though, because he was so mean and weird. Even Lisette, with her special brand of physical shortcomings, had higher standards than that. She was pretty sure that this was what Gloria had been scared of in the first place. At least if it was a murderer it would have been exciting. Connor was just gross.

The problem was, with him standing right there Lisette didn't think she could get out. Even on a good day Lisette would have been too shy to talk to a boy she didn't like. Under these awkward circumstances there was no chance in the world she'd risk it. She heard Gloria whisper, but she couldn't see her from the tiny space where she was crammed – the pillar was in the way, blocking her view of that side of the room. Her only hope was that Connor wouldn't hear Gloria or spot Lisette and would go away before too long. She hadn't come up with a better idea yet.
