Nigel Wright Gryffindor - 1984 Gypsy and Deviant Forever at a PriceMinor Earth, Major Sky
“See? You got him. Next time, just work on drawing back more smoothly and take into account the wind and gravity when you aim.” He was about to go choose the next target to replace the whimpering Slytherin, but Nat just shot off at the kid without any warning. Nigel let out a somewhat unmanly yelp; he had been about to cross right into the shooting lane, and Nat would have nailed him right in the chest. “Hey,” he said, grouching at his friend. “I was going to switch him out.”
Then Will brought up fancy parties, and Nigel joked, “It’s harder to sneak out of them!” Once those old ladies got a hold of someone, there was no escape. Not until Mummy told them it was past his bedtime, or something else equally embarrassing. He didn’t see why Will would want to go to one. She’d have to wear a dress and act like a girl, which he knew was not her strongest suit. He was about to point that out to her, but then Nat took over the whole conversation. Nigel sort of glanced at Will as their best friend made it painfully obvious that he was better than both of them.
Normally, it didn’t bother Nigel. He didn’t care that he was a halfblood. Most of the time, he actually preferred the company of Muggles to Wizarding people. Still, every once in a while, he was reminded that all of his friends were invited places that he wasn’t. He didn’t want to go, but it would be nice to be included. As Nat went on and on about what Will would need and his conditions for taking her, Nigel felt very much like a third wheel. And not a necessary kind, like on a tricycle. The bicycle kind where there was room for two wheels and no one else. Hmph. He didn’t care. He was just going to go and… shoot the hell out of these first years.
He grabbed his quiver and took his bow over to the cluster of first years, leaving Nat and Will some privacy for their private plans about their private party. The Slytherin boy was sitting where he fell and holding his elbow as Nigel trudged up to him. “Up you get, kid,” he said, hauling the boy to his feet. “You’ll be fine.” He walked the child over to the cluster of other first years and released him into their care. “There you go. Now Lowe’ll nurse you back to health. Give him a kiss, Lowe.” He smirked as the blue-coloured Puff opened her arms wide and began chasing the now yelling Slytherin boy. Hufflepuffs. He rolled his eyes. But, at least, Allen seemed to have forgotten his injury.
Surveying the remaining first years, he selected the other two Puff girls and the Slytherin girl. “Okay, you three come with me, and Ritter… make sure that Lowe doesn’t injure Allen.” He escorted the little troop of girls over to the treeless area and spaced them varying distances from his designated shooting station. After assuring the blonde Hufflepuff that fine, he would use the yellow arrow on her, he returned to Will and Nat. They seemed to be still talking, so he took up his position, found a yellow arrow and hit the girl square between the shoulders with it.
Crap. He had actually been aiming off to the side. Hitting a kid in the spine with a high velocity weapon was probably not a good plan, and he would prefer not to be sued. Though, he wasn’t keeping them prisoner, and they could leave any time if they felt like they didn’t want to be hit with arrows; he’d be sure to point that out if anyone seemed like they wanted to blame him. However, the girl was already back on her feet and she wasn’t even staggering. Hmm. The next girl got a green arrow in the kidney, and the Slytherin got some lovely Gryffindor red hair.
That did make him feel somewhat better. He edged a little closer to his superior-blooded friends. Without looking at Nat, he handed the bow to Will. “You want to try again?” he asked.
