As Madame Pomfrey rushed up to the floating stretcher with the small second year girl, Peter tried to quickly explain what happened.
"We were in duelling club, and I accidentally cast too strong a spell, and Professor Burke sent us here. He says she should be ok. I didn't mean to...." said Peter. Madame Pomfrey looked disapprovingly at him and whisked Miriam off to an empty bed on the right side. The hospital wing was mostly empty, it still being early in the semester, so not too many students had managed to get badly banged up. Once Madame Pomfrey walked away Peter came up to the bed. He was still in shock. He had just knocked a second year unconscious on the first night of duelling club. How in Merlin's name had he managed to do that? Miriam's eyes fluttered open, and Peter stooped down a bit. "I'm so sorry, Miriam!" he said quietly. "I think I got a little carried away and thought I'd try to go ahead and end the duel so you could sit down. Guess that didn't work out so well. Please don't hate me." I'll be she doesn't come back to duelling club, Peter thought, and I bet next time I'll be the one in the hospital wing. Good thing it's right next door to the classroom where we duel.
