Things between Cash and Diana hadn't changed all that much. He still didn't love her. He respected her, but didn't love her. Cash was enjoying her company more though, now that the initial shock of marriage, adulthood, and parenthood was over. Their life was a bit of routine as well. He'd come home, they'd have dinner together. Cash would spend an hour or so with her and their son, and then he would go and paint for an hour.
At first he would paint all night, but when he realized he didn't want a marriage where him and Diana never saw each other, he was able to regulate his painting. Though he didn't love her, he did feel that she deserved to be treated well despite it. Cash would bring her something back every time he went to Italy, and he tried not to be home late from work.
Tonight, however, he was a bit late. Diana knew that he was always late the night before he was due in Italy. He had alot of work to go over so he knew exactly what to expect when working in Italy. This trip was a little bit different. Cash would be dealing with Italian undersecretary on his own, just for one short meeting. He had a lot of studying to do for that. It wasn't until at least a half an hour after everyone else had left that Cash threw his jacket on and made to leave.
As he walked down the International Cooperation department, Cash saw a light on in his father's office. What was he still doing there? Cash's brow furrowed. Hands in the pockets of his slacks, he meandered his way over and was surprised when he saw not his father but his secrety. She was pretty little blonde thing that he wasn't friends with, but he had spoken to her often because of his father.
Cash leaned against the door frame and watched her for a few minutes. "My father made you stay late again, didn't he, Miss. Bakewell?....Shame on him." He gave her a small smile and glanced at the time. He tried not to sigh. He didn't want to go home. Diana always whined the night before he had to leave. Pushing away from the door, Cash walked into the office and took a seat in his father's chair and put his feet up on his desk. "You have much longer? I can keep you company if you want."
