It was a stupid holiday. The holiday was supposed to be about love and romance and all of those things. And she was spending it with her husband whom she occasionally felt tolerance for. Somehow it made Valentine's day less significant.
Esperanza pushed the tiny spanish flag earrings in to the small spaces in her ears, and fastened the gold chain around her neck, dropping the little fawn in to the neck of her red dress. She had tiny yellow flowers in her dark curls. She looked good. They were going out for dinner. Out in a very public place. This was her opportunity. And she planned to take full advantage of it.
After an hour or so of preparation, Esperanza and her husband had left the house, leaving Grace with Clarissa. They were fashionably late to their dinner reservation. They were seated in a nice table near the windows that over looked in to the street. The restaurant was pretty crowded, as things tended to be on Valentine's day. This was their favorite place to go on dates, really the only one they ever went to.
She ordered the same thing she always ordered, and only half listened to what Kaleb asked for. ONce the waiter had left, Esperanza folded her hands on the table and leaned forward very seriously. "Kaleb. I have made a decision." Because it was her decision, She had made it. This was the way things were going to be. "I'm going to be a primary teacher. I want… I am going to have a career of my own." She smiled, knowing that she'd picked a very good place to break this news to him.
"Happy Valentine's Day."
