Pete sat high up in the Quidditch stadium, leaning out over a railing to watch the apple core that he’d just thrown down. He’d charmed it with an exploding spell, to make it burst into sparks as soon as it hit something hard enough, and then lobbed it in the direction of the Slytherin locker room entrance. A small shower of red sparks erupted after a moment of flight. The stadium was relatively dark, all of the team practices being over for the evening and the bulk of the torches being extinguished. It was right cold out, too, but Pete hadn’t been able to bring himself to go back indoors just yet. The next match loomed in just a few days and his shoulders felt heavy with the weight of it. Hufflepuff may not have produced the showing everybody expected from them this year – no doubt a result of losing Reuben Summers to Montrose – but Pete couldn’t help the restlessness preying on his nerves. He’d be playing against Lindsay again, which always made him uneasy. It was hard to put his head into a ruthless mindset when his own girlfriend was the enemy looking back at him from the other side of the pitch. He tapped his wand against a pebble and chucked it hard into the darkness. It went all the way to the door of the Slytherin lockers and ricocheted around a little, putting out a good show of sparks. ![]() |
