He was used to having to look up when someone said the words Ding-Dong. After all that was usually his nickname out on the pitch. What he was not used to was Skrumpkin yelling it as they were walking out to the pitch. Shane could hardly get it together enough to yell out the rejoinder, the sheer ridiculousness of the Hufflepuff side yelling nonsensical noises was just too much, he did laugh, hearing Sioni and then Shay’s voices, trying not to trip as he chuckled and echoed Shay’s lobbing a fist into the air to accompany their yells.
Shane had started to feel the nervousness of walking back out onto the pitch, that feeling in the pit of your stomach and then it crept up your back and made his palms itch to get a hold of the quaffle, to get up on his broom.
To win.
But this was doing a fine job of keeping all of that at the back of his mind.
“Ting-A-Ling!” He turned to point to T.J the next time they were instructed to say it, clearly her wish to become some other noise was not going to come true.

Max Westbrook Hufflepuff 1986 Book Binder and Tinkerer Believe in Possibility
Highly Strung
Max had been feeling slightly left out of the plan, having not been given a noise, but when Shane pointed out that the bludgers would be aimed at the noises, he decided it would be better to be silent. Yeah. Like that was possible. Max couldn’t be silent if he tried. He’d just have to duck and weave… like a butterfly. No! A bumblebee! Obviously, as they were wearing yellow and black. Hufflepuffs should really be badgers, but… they didn’t seem like particularly agile creatures. Thus, he tended to agree with T.J.’s assessment.
“We can gossip about things. It doesn't have to mean anything. Just loud enough to let the beaters to know where we are.”
“So they can hit us?” he asked, doubtfully. “But I think it’d be more effective if we gossip about the Gryffindors. It might be underhanded and sneaky, but I think they might be thrown off if we’re shouting embarrassing things about them.” And, of course, they didn’t have to be true things. That was the beauty of such a plan. Well… beauty. It would make him feel slightly guilty about making up mean things, but… his duty was first to his team, he supposed.
The captain’s suggestion that he honk like a goose made him snort in laughter. He attempted to honk like a goose, but it ended up sounding more like an elephant. After a few tries, he had to give up because he kept coughing in the middle of it. Most likely, he’d end up just talking to himself and hoping not to make a target of himself. While the chanting of his teammates chorused around him, he focused on the sound of Shane and T.J.’s voices. It would be embarrassing if he mistook a Gryffindor’s voice for that of his fellow chasers. Not as embarrassing as scoring in the wrong hoops, but close.
The three chasers had practiced their plays and maneuvers so often that they were almost perfectly synchronised. However, it was one thing to be synchronised in practice, when he could see his teammates, and a whole different matter to try to stay in formation when he could see no one and nothing. Max was awfully concerned about it, despite the cheerful attitude and chanting. He really hoped the match started soon. This waiting was terrible. It just gave them all more time to think about what they could do wrong.

Sabrina had agreed to come with Esperanza to watch the Quidditch for two reasons, and two reasons only. As a kind of think you to Espa for seeing her and being so supportive (Not to say commanding) about Alexander, and to support Sioni ap Emerys, for mutual friendship’s sake.
She had not told Alexander about her visit because, firstly, it was a last minute decision, and secondly, …. Well actually she was afraid of seeing him before she was ready.
And part of her, in spite of Espa’s pep-talks, was afraid she would never be ready.
So she came to the match to be with Espa and watch Sioni. Well, she wouldn’t be watching Sioni He would have to be visible to be watched. And right now, sitting up in the Hufflepuff stands, she couldn’t see the other supporters, let alone the pitch. So she was resolved to have a good natter with Esperanza, and sneak away in the fog, apparating back to Norwich as soon as she was outside the gates.
"Miss Sorelli, fancy seeing you here," he told her quietly. Seeing who she was with, Alexander inclined his head toward Espa. "Mrs. Broadmoor."
So much for that idea.
Sabrina clenched her hands under her blanket and answered brightly, “Well, Alexander, fancy seeing you here.” Fancy being able to see anyone, come to that. “Espa, I was going to introduce Alexander Holcombe, whom I might have mentioned, but it seems you have met already.” She wanted to cling to Espa for safety but she had a feeling Espa was already enjoying her discomfort too much.
“Did you get lost in the fog on your way to the Slytherin stand?” Of course not. He’d seen her and come over on purpose. She should take that as a good thing, right? “I only really started watching the matches out of a sense of duty, as Head Girl,” Sabrina said to Espa, “And Alexander was kind enough to keep me company and explain things. His brother is on the Slytherin team.” Really of course, Espa knew all of that and more, how Sabrina had tutored Trent so as to be with Alexander, how they had hidden out in empty classrooms, and artfully accidently bumped into each other in Hogsmeade. But for now she wanted Alexander to think she was still keeping their secret.

Now she knew some Quidditch players would actually try to kill themselves out on the pitch. Some people were just like that, they couldn’t leave anything behind and once they were up on their brooms, it seemed like life or death with them. She knew those players on The Magpies, the ones that were so completely involved that being a ‘Quidditch Widow’ was no joke. It was all or nothing.
Shay could be like that, from what Anna-Marie remembered, even from Jeremy’s time as a reserve for the Hufflepuff team she knew others like that from their house team. There was something about his sister that made her push just a little harder, want just a little more. It was trying in personal relationships but it was something that coaches were looking for, she imagined that her prospects would be better for a career if Hufflepuff could pull out a win.
"You are such a mom."
Anna-Marie smiled with a nod of her head towards her boys. Back when she’d been in Hogwarts she’d been a little air-headed, easily distracted and easily amused. She supposed that had to take a backseat to making sure that her progeny was cared for enough to survive into adulthood…or Hogwarts so they could in turn be Hufflepuff players.
“If you aren’t nice to me I won’t let you have a lolly.” The blonde teased, knowing that even a breathed word about candy would have her son’s ears turning toward her to see if he could pick up when that was going to be offered.
"Are you actually suggesting we ditch out on my poor little sister? Anna Marie, I am shocked,"
That had her laughing and shaking her head.
“Noooo! Go Shay!” She raised her hands prompting her own son to repeat after her, though he had no earthly idea who that was, but was eager to echo what Kevin had been yelling previously.
“They should be getting out onto the pitch now…” She mused, looking out over the fog, raising her fingers to her lips to let out an ear piercing whistle, which had both of her boys laughing.

“Hope you ride your mum better than you do that broom, Shane, or she’ll never speak to you again!”
“Slow as fuck from rolling off the wrong side of your mum this morning, Pete. Couldn't hear much last night since her mouth was full, but I think she said something about being a Badger fan.”
And so it went on. As predicted their original and entertaining plan was woefully too little too late for the Hufflepuffs, it didn’t help that Cait’s knee’s had slammed hard into his shoulder during the first bits of the match, his plan to keep the Gryffindor’s beaters on his right wasn’t holding up because he couldn’t honestly tell where they were even when they were under his nose, and Warwick kicking that Quaffle out of his grip was still stinging his pride. Not as much as his side putting in a goal on their own keeper. That had a very frustrated Shane yelling out on the pitch.
“Get your head out of your arse, Westbrook! For fuck’s sake!”
He took this next break in their game play and laid himself out on their bench, a moody fist pressed up against his furrowed brow. The whole game was at a stand still, they were at a crawl on the Chaser line, though the three of them were working about as closely together as they dared, the Quaffle still landed on the pitch 9 times out of 10 it seemed. He wasn’t up to listening to upbeat ‘you can do it’ speeches and was relieved when he could finally walk back out on the pitch and into that frustrating fog.

Lollies were dispensed, children were situated and she was ready to start the game. But this wasn’t the heated action that Jeremy and Anna-Marie had been planning on showing their boys, no, it was like looking out into nothing and trying to listen to the WWN broadcast a professional match, only, it was so delayed half the time because no one could see anything. She’d had to put a cracker into Seth’s mouth when he’d started getting fussy, mostly so she could concentrate on just where the shadows were in the dense weather. It wasn't unheard of for a match to go on for days, and where her boys could entertain themselves for a few hours, and Seth was making gurgling noises to remind his mother that it was nap time and he was no where near his bed, Anna-Marie didn't think that she could draw out the entertainment she'd brought for another four.
“I have no idea how they are even getting any points.”
“I can’t even find the goals and we are in the stands.” Anna-Marie agreed readily.
“It has to be blind luck that they are even scoring. Shanley....If she catches the snitch, she deserves a da-,”
Anna-Marie smothered a smile, and made move to cover up Deacon’s little ears through his hood, with a wink.
“she deserves an award.”
“That she does. But she’ll do it; Shay’ll take care of business.” The blond looked back out over the fog in front of them, when it was announced that the players were taking back to the skies.
“You know, they could be sleeping down there for all we know and they are just making this all up.” The woman joked, sticking that candy on a stick back into her mouth, instead of on the seat where Deacon had decided to leave his once he was done.
