Max Westbrook Hufflepuff 1986 Book Binder and Tinkerer Believe in Possibility
Highly Strung
For the first hour or so, Max had tried to stick to the plan. Up in the air, he was constantly humming little tunes to himself and singing jingles. The normal chaser formation was in shambles. He rarely had any idea where the other two were, unless Shane was making the bell noises. Really, he didn’t know where he was, exactly, as was made evident when his worst nightmare was realized and he scored at the wrong end of the pitch. Sure, he wasn’t the only one, and the fog was a good excuse, but he still felt just awful. And the shouting at him was not necessary.
“It’s the bloody fog!” he shouted back. As if he didn’t feel badly enough already. Still, he couldn’t let himself brood about it too much. They were still playing. After the mishap, he managed to get his hands on the Quaffle quite a bit, but before taking aim, he made sure to pause and squint to identify Maculric. Just in case. And hey! He was doing better than the others so far, so they had no right to complain at him. Even with the freebie goal to Gryffindor, he wasn’t doing any worse than Shane or T.J. Besides! If Skrumpkin had blocked the goal, it wouldn’t have even mattered.
When Madam Hooch finally called for a break, he was very disgruntled and angry—mostly at himself. The ground got the brunt of his frustration; as he trailed along behind his teammates, he kicked at it viciously, sending clods of dirt and dead grass flying everywhichway. T.J. was right. It could have gone a bloody lot worse: he could have made two goals for the other team. Ugh! That one mistake was going to haunt him for the rest of the match, which would mess with his concentration, and he would probably end up making more mistakes!
Clearly, at the moment, he was not inclined to be optimistic, despite T.J.’s little speech. It was just as likely that the Gryffindors would get better as the match continued. Unless someone got seriously injured and sidelined, he rather thought things wouldn’t change much. Hopefully the Captain could get them all motivated again. They would certainly need it, he thought. The way things were going, this match could go on for days…

Scarlett Briar Little Miss UnafraidEmma Briar Primadonna Girl
He’d been on his way out; at least he’d thought that he was going to be waiting out in the fog for the rest of his teammates. He was exhausted, he wanted a nap but the annoyance that he felt over the match being so close wasn’t one that would go away. So he’d decided to take a minute before he’d head back into the locker room. But it seemed that T.J Scott, the same T.J Scott that had decided that her poor virgin ears weren’t to be touched with the mucking about between Pete and himself looped her arm through his and dragged him back bodily.
"Well that could have gone a bloody lot worse. I'd say its going pretty well, all things considered, wouldn't you? And We're only three behind! We can totally kick some arse in the next couple hours."
Shane only had a few moments to right himself, tucking the girl’s hand into the crook of his elbow, oddly more like he was escorting her to a dance instead of back into the Badger’s den. Maybe it had something to do with her little dancing feet, all that shifting about with the delicate movements went to her hands and then from her hands to his arm and there he was, looking down at her with a raised eyebrow and a groan.
“This should have been in the bag.” He grumbled, more than happy to take this break to again go back to his napping that he’d started before. This time when he separated himself from the little blond he rested his hand on top of her head, not quite patting it, not really ruffling her hair, he just rested his hand there and smiled at her for a minute like she was a prized quaffle and he knew he had a clear shot at the hoops.
“You’re doing a good job out there.” Shane told her, before deciding to sit on the floor and stretch himself out and close his eyes, his back feeling much better when he did that since he’d been hunched over his broom for hours.
“Valentine?” He called for Shay.
“You aren’t sulking are you?” He opened his eyes once more too look for the brown haired girl.

Not Getting Any Younger
Sioni heard the whistle and thought someone must have been injured, so when he dropped down to the turf, he was a bit taken aback when Hooch called the teams over and announced a time out for recovery. He’d never heard of a play being stopped. But then he’d never heard of a Quidditch match where you couldn’t see anything, so he wasn’t going to complain. In fact, he didn’t say anything on the way back to the Dressing room. Standing in the doorway, looking around at his team, collapsing around the room he couldn’t help but smile.
Sioni walked around the room, stopping briefly by each of his players. T.J.’s hair he ruffled and softly said, “Hang in there, fach, you’re doing great.” To Max he smiled and said, “Great match. I’m proud of you.” Shane he gently punched on the shoulder and said with a nod, “Keep shouting, Shane, I need to know where you and the rest are, so I can make sure I don’t send a Bludger your way.”
He walked over to Shanley and smiled. Slowly he put his arms around her and gave her a hug. “It’s out there somewhere, Shanty-town. You will find it. Trust yourself, fach; I trust you,” He whispered. Stopping by Skrumpkin, Sioni knelt down beside the Keeper’s slumped form and quietly said, “Grand job. Any other Keeper would have missed twice as much in the fog. Just hang in there, Skrump, and help me win this one. Hang in there, mate.”
Then he made his way to his fellow Beater and said, “Right. You and me have work to do, Lindsay. In this fog, normal play won’t work it. So we’re going to double team, flying a slow spiral in the center of the pitch.” He paused and continued, his voice barely audible, but tense. “The Bludgers are drawn toward the players. Keep within sight of me, which is… what? Three yards? Five max? Whoever sees a Bludger tips it to the one closest to the skrum. Then if we hear our players, send it wide. If it’s Gryffindor, give it everything you’ve got. I don’t care who it is. You’ll probably miss in this mess, see, so don’t worry. But shake ‘em up. I’ll take anything passes between us, like. Got that? I’ll keep talking to you up there, so just stay close and be ready to let fly, hard, if you get the chance. Break their broomsticks. Rattle ‘em. What ever it takes. We have to win”
He walked over toward the table that had been set up with refreshments and took a class of pumpkin and downed it. Turning and looking around at his team mates he said, “Alright, I know we are all tired. So relax, stretch, and get a bite, like Lindsay, says, see? But remember this. Gryffindor are tired too. But we have an advantage. We’re Hufflepuff! We don’t give up. We won’t give up. We never give up. They will break and we won’t. Lindsay and I will keep them so busy they won’t know where to turn. Shanley, you just find us that Snitch. Skrumpkin? None shall pass.”
Sioni picked up another glass and drank. “We’re gonna win.”

Millie’s hands were shaking. Her arms were shaking and she was just shaking all over. She was trying her best but she just couldn’t seem to stop. Maybe shaking was the wrong word; maybe it was trembling, because every muscle in her body seemed to be exhausted. Four hours. Four hours and she hadn’t so much as had a glimpse of the Snitch. Well, she might have, but she ran into the dizzy blonde playing for Skrumpkin’s side and nearly fallen off her broom. Try as she might she just couldn’t shake off the adrenalin rush that came after she had managed to clamber back onto her broom. He mouth still tasted of copper, and she felt like an old wet rag.
Especially the wet part. She sat quietly on the bench, and tried to work a drying spell for her boots and gloves, because they seemed to be the worst bits.
“Where’s Millie?” he said suddenly. “Millie come on over here so I don’t have to be loud, will you?”
She grabbed a sandwich and a glass of juice and plodded over to her captain, flopping down dejectedly. “I can’t see anything, Peter. I can’t see you; I can’t see Caitlin or..or Amber or the Hoops or the ground, even! And I certainly can’t see the Snitch. How am I supposed to do this?” She wasn’t giving up. She was going to grab the Snitch if it ever let her see it. But she’d never found flying so… hard.
