Taking care of his fathers business was a lot of work, but it came easy. Crunching numbers and balancing accounts seemed almost like second skin when he started as Head of the company. He had actually been surprised with the level of work he could produce; mostly because while in school Kalle had easily been one of the biggest slackers that had graced those classrooms. A majority of that he could place blame on all the weed he had been smoking. Concentrating on charms while stoned wasn't an easy task. He had kicked a lot of those habits once his father passed away. He was responsible for a variety of things now, and getting high at every opportune moment wasn't an option anymore. But it had been easy, well, easier then he had expected it to be.
What wasn't easy was being sole guardian of his siblings. No longer could he pass the kids off to someone else when he didn't want them around anymore. No, he was that someone else. Even if he didnt want the responsibility it was his now. From making sure Emilie stayed away from certain blokes all the way down to keeping Elias out of trouble. The first was easy; dealing with Elias was a different story. Not that the ten year old was a troublemaker. It just seemed that the trouble seemed to gravitate towards him like he was a magnet for it. This particular afternoon hadn't been any different then the others. Kalle had just been finishing with the morning reports when Elias came rushing into the office. His foot connected with the corner of a chair, and just like that he went careening forward and slammed his head into the front of Kalle's desk. He was at the younger boys side before the screaming even started, and even then Kalle could see that the angle of the boy's right arm just didn't look right. Scooping him up in his arms Kalle made his weekly visit to Mungos. Before entering he paced in front of the building for a good five minutes to coach himself at going in. Hospitals for him were right up at the top of the list of things he hated most in life. Girls had their fear of spiders; he had his fear of potions, healers and hospital wings. Elias stifled back a sharp cry and Kalle, still dreading the entry, finally sucked it up and made his way into the building. For an early weekday morning the place seemed unusually busy. "Excuse me..." A passing healer merely shuffled by him, "Um, sorry could you..." he attempted to ask another. After six failed attempts to get anyones attention he made his way through the crowds of people and up to the front desk. "Excuse me I need someone to look at..." But the woman behind the desk held up her finger and began arguing with another woman rummaging through files. "Is there anyone who works here that can tell me where to go!" He shouted, unaware of how completely obnoxious and rude he was sounding. ![]() |
