The question before Me, Myself and I today is what kind of a man is Kaleb Broadmoor? A very successful man, of course. A man with alll the trappings of his succeess: Pureblood background, big house, beautiful wife, three lovely children, well paying job, acclaim of his teammates and honors heaped upon him by his loving fans. And he is not one who only takes and does not give back. Who can forget the sight of the Dangerous Dai Llewellyn award winner arriving at Hogwarts to hand out free equipment to the students there?
But let’s look a little closer at all this, shall we?
There are those who hold that Broadmoor owes his position on the Falmouth Falcons because of his Pureblood status, though I’m inclined to discount that. It’s one thing to be picked to play, and another to play well. So what do his fellow Falcons say about it?
“Well, he’s a strong player, like,” Says Sioni Rhys, who plays opposite Kaleb as Falmouth Beater. “No doubt about that. I wonder that he hasn’t killed someone yet. In practice.”
In practice? Broadmoor's partner wonders that he hasn’t killed one of his own teammates?
“There’s no doubt that Kaleb is responsible for a number of injuries in matches and practice games. But he’ll go all out to win,” Said assistant coach Jackie Peryl. “Yes, he’ll do anything to win.”
He’ll do anything to win. Anything?
Sioni Rhys again: “I well remember when I was trying out for the Flacons, see? Most of the other players wanted to see what I could do. Kaleb… well, it was more like he wanted to see what he could do to me, isn’t it? I had to watch the Bludger comin’ from him as much as the rest of the team. More like he was playing against me, than with me.”
And this is from the man who saved Broadmoor’s life on a team building trip to the Amazon.
And his beautiful wife? Seems she isn’t seen often at practices or team social events. And the reason? Bruising.
“Oh, yes, Espa Broadmoor. Not a great fan of Quidditch, I don’t think. But she’s accident prone. Always walking into things and falling down stairs and hurting herself,” Said Maggie Edwards, wife to reserve Chaser Edward Edwards.
Bruises? Falling down the stairs?
“I was friendly with Esperanza at Hogwarts,” Remembers Sioni Rhys. “She wasn’t clumsy then. Very graceful . A beautiful girl, good dancer, like. Tell the truth, I’m not sure if he doesn’t slap her around a bit. He threatens me often enough. I don’t think he’d touch the kiddies, though.”
So here is a man who hits people with iron balls for a living. And his partner thinks him violent! And that’s just on the pitch!
What’s he like outside?
“Oh, Kaleb is always talking about the women he’s been seeing!” Said a member of the Falcons’ Ground crew who wishes to remain anonymous. “Kaleb would beat the crap out of me if he knew I’d said that,” was the reason given.
Then there is the story that on the trip through the Amazon, Kaleb made good friends with the natives; one girl in particular. When pressed Sioni Rhys answered, “How old? Well, hard to say, really. Sixteen? Fifteen? Younger? I was busy talking to the tribal shaman, like, so I didn’t get much of a look at her.”
So while his partner was off with the tribal elders, Kaleb Broadmoor slipped off with an underage girl.
But he is a great benifactor, right? All that equipment for Hogwarts?
And all those schoolgirls crowding around to thank him?
What kind of thanks did he want? That’s what troubles Me, Myself and I.
(Next: Who was the girl?)
