House: Gryffindor
Year: Fifth
Wand: Yew, supple, 12 inches, dragon heartstring core
Bloodline: Her mother, Mariana, was a Muggle-born witch (expelled in her fifth year), so this technically makes her a halfblood. Considering Callie has never known her mother, she believes she is Muggle-born.
Birthday: 21st December 1961
Pet/Familiar: She had a tarantula, Cosette, last year, but this was forcibly removed from her possession upon it's discovery two weeks later, climbing up a dormmate's bedpost.
Physical Description: Whilst Callie might not care to notice it, the fact is that she is quite a stunner. But she simply does not care- not much, anyway. Excessive time spent on appearance has always been in her mind a complete waste, although she has become more aware over the past year that she is not wholly unattractive (the ready availability of hot water might be the cause of this). If she ever bothered looking in the mirror, she might even be pleased with the way she looks. But beauty in her opinion is something a girl either has or hasn't got, and there is no point in obsessing over or trying to manufacture what you don't have. Her whole beauty routine consists of a quick rub down with soap (a luxury she only really became acquainted with upon arrival at school) and a few strokes through her hair with a comb, giving her naturally blonde locks a permanently tousled appearance.
Her features are deceptively feminine, yet Callie is not possessed of that high cheek-boned structure women seem to envy. Instead, her face is round and seems to radiate innocence, something that has gotten her and others in plenty of trouble. Light green eyes are the sole feature she's inherited from her father, and all too often they are blinking innocently, allowing her a swift getaway before the bypasser notices their wallet has been pinched. When she's not busy looking innocent, she wears a confident, defiant, I know you're looking at me and you like what you see sort of expression. In accordance with her classic Anglo-Saxon colouring, her complexion is clear (mostly, as she is a teenager) and pale.
It could not be said that she was blessed with a naturally slim physique, four years of Hogwarts food having helped erase from memory the painfully skinny eleven year old (that scoffed everything in sight lest it be her last meal) she was upon arrival. However, she is certainly slender and athletic, due to constant physical activity rather than lucky genes or an extraordinary metabolism. Whilst she never got into the Quidditch scene, not even dreaming of being able to afford a proper broom, Callie is always on the move, an incurable fidget, and her activity has ensured she's kept herself slim. Perhaps if she cared about such things, she would worry about lacking a handspan waist, but since when did an athlete have such a ridiculously skinny midriff? The slight thickness to her waist is all muscle. Her habit of wearing crop tops and shorts around everywhere means that everybody else knows she's toned, too. Callie carries herself with confidence but never elegance.
Personality Description: Callie has the sort of self-assurance that only comes with having experience the greatest lows of life and come out fighting. In her short life, she's never truly had anyone she can fully depend on- her father and brothers love her immensely and protect her to the best of their ability, sure, but they can't be there all the time- and thus her constant struggle with life has left her with the knowledge that she is perfectly capable of getting on by herself. The downside to this attitude is that she actively avoids help at all costs. She is sure as hell not going to volunteer anything about her own hardships- anyone that asks is told not-so-politely to get out of her face and mind their own business.
Like any child that has survived her type of environment, Callie is perfectly capable of standing up for herself and will do so whenever it is required. She will take no nonsense from anyone and is not interested in knowing about their petty troubles. That said, she would not be a Gryffindor if she was not prepared to stand up on occasion for those she felt were marginalised. Callie does not expect a return favour. In fact, she expects nothing from anyone, having learnt early on that expectation only lead to disappointment and that there was no point in getting her hopes up.
Despite the fierce independence, Callie is intensely loyal to her family and those select few that manage to earn her respect. Her good opinion is notoriously difficult to earn, Callie being the type of girl who will not suffer fools, spoilt brats, chauvinists, perverts, airheads or any variation on those themes. It isn't quite so difficult to get on her bad side. She has a wild temper, even if it is not so easily provoked (she'd never get anywhere if she was permanently angry). Being on Callie's bad side is not an enviable position- she is a terrifying enemy. Being on her good side...she is the fiercest, most protective of friends, and reveals herself to be actually capable of being good company. Betrayal, though, she does not take lightly, and she takes a perverse pleasure in holding grudges. Callie has more than enough spirit to ensure that any wrong against her is repaid ten times over.
She simply does not care what others think of her- if they choose to bitch about her behind her back, then they are perfectly entitled to their own opinion. A few insults don't faze this spitfire. Yet she would never stoop to the level of talking behind backs herself- Callie is a straight talker. Blunt. For a true evaluation of appearance, one needn't look further than Callie, because if you look like crap she will tell you. Callie has absolutely no time for beating around the bush- her motto is get to the bloody point and she sticks by it. If she dislikes you, there will be no doubt in your mind that this is the case. This also applies if she believes you to fit into one of those horrible five categories mentioned above.
Callie does exactly what she wants, not caring about the wishes of her so called 'superiors'. Rest assured that whatever Callie does, she's done because she feels like it or because she has to. She wastes no time and once setting her heart on something will go to any lengths to achieve it. This determination crosses over into the relationship field. When it comes to guys, she makes it clear if she likes them. Perhaps she sleeps around more than she should, but having never had a real mother figure and having been brought up with ladies of the night prowling the streets, it's no wonder that she hasn't much in the way of morals.
Like many Gryffindors, Callie is a risk-taker. Yet she doesn't leap off cliffs or rush straight into a fight like many of her housemates seem to do. Coupled with her natural daredevil streak is life experience. Callie has seen heads smashed on the floor in drunken brawls, she's seen her brothers come home black and blue, she's fended off the advances of drunken men- her flight or fight programming is not tipped on either side. She will think something over before rushing headfirst into it, but is by no means a coward. It's just that sometimes she knows the best self-defence is to run.
Brief History: Mariana Simeon and Stephen Walker were Cockneys, born and bred in the East End. They grew up together, living in tiny houses on neighbouring streets, if houses was what you could call them. Their fathers were both dock workers, and between them they had barely an hour of education. Sometime when Stephen was eleven, Mariana completely disappeared off his radar- and whilst Stephen was puzzled by this, he eventually concluded that her family had died of starvation or illness, death being a concept he had grown up with, and thus he went on with the business of survival.
In truth, Mariana had been sent, with great astonishment and pride on the part of her family, off to Hogwarts. Her parents saw in this school an opportunity for their daughter to make something of herself and therefore raise them out of the squalor they lived in- but it wasn't to be. Mariana got into fight after fight, and never quite kicked the habit of snitching possessions- by her fifth year she was expelled, other parents having complained about the wild little thing that was sharing their angels' dorm. And thus, she went back to her life, trying her best to forget about magic. The second day back, she met Stephen after five years of absence- and he fell for the beautiful girl he could barely recognise.
Son after son followed their marriage two years later- Callista herself was the fifth child and only daughter. Despite their lack of money, both Walkers possessed youthful optimism and a love that held the whole family together. But the arrival of the last son, one year after Callie's birth, ended it all. Exhausted by childbirth, Mariana died scarce hours later, not even the last remnants of magical knowledge she possessed able to save her. And thus, the five Walker children began life without a mother, but with a father possessed of enough strength of spirit to keep his family alive.
Her childhood was spent avoiding the heavy hand of dockmen, fighting off the taunts of the older children and playing spirited games of football when the boys allowed her to. Had she had anything in the way of a mother figure, perhaps Callie would have turned out different. But as it was, Callie lived in a house with five males, and living in East End didn't exactly allow for girly-girl behaviour in any case. Her father made enough to get by, and one after another her brothers went off to work, too, so whilst stuffing herself to the brim was uncommon and she was skin-and-bones, her family generally had the necessities required for survival.
Her big break came six months before her twelfth birthday- a formidable woman, looking completely out of place, arrived on her doorstep brandishing a letter and looking disapproving of the very violent tussle between Callie and Immanuel that she walked in upon. Did Callie remember any inexplicable circumstances involving herself? Yes, she did- who could forget Peter next-door's face when his nose lengthened after Callie caught him lying? And would Callie like to learn magic? Yes, yes, YES! So off it was to Diagon Alley, her family not too proud to accept a bagful of gold in order to send their girl off (Mariana had once been a favourite of McGonagall although Callie had never been told this and was unaware of her heritage).
Despite her excitement at the prospect of a new and better life, beginning at Hogwarts was difficult for the newly Sorted Gryffindor. Her take-no-nonsense attitude didn't win her a multitude of friends, yet neither was she entirely friendless, and as she grew older, numerous flings followed. She spoke Cockney which was laughable, was barely literate which was pitiable, and to top it all off she was reliably informed that she looked like a skeleton. The speech she was proud of, the skinniness took care of itself after a few months of solid eating, but it was the illiteracy she was ashamed of. A solid year of struggle was just enough to have her writing steadily if slowly for the end-of-year exams.
Now she's about to enter her OWL year, and is excited but a little afraid of the prospect of exams that have the ability to make or break her.
Important Relationships:
Stephen Walker, Father: Callie loves him for making the best of what had to be very difficult circumstances. And he's her father, he's stuck by her family, he never fell into the despair of the bottle like so many she knew- these are worthy of her respect. From her father she's learnt to take whatever life offered, and to acquire anything else that was not.
Alon Walker, Elder Brother: He's a good-looking, strapping young man, six years older than his sister and raising a son of his own already with his sweetheart. Alon was forever raised to godlike status in Callie's mind two summers ago, when he punched out a man that thought to take advantage of his sweet-faced sister.
Gavriel Walker, Elder Brother: Gav was always the one that knew who would slip him an extra sixpence, and when the decimalised system came out, he was the one quick enough to understand it. He's sharp as a tack and the family knew, with great pride, that he would go far- at eighteen years old he's already thinking about being a teacher, or something flash like that.
Immanuel Walker, Elder Brother: Because they are quite close in age, Callie and Immanuel have spent the vast majority of their time fighting tooth and nail for everything. Yet, when they're not attempting to murder each other, they're the best of friends and more often than not fighting off any intruders into their personal space. Callie's philosophy is that only she is allowed to tick off Immanuel, and anyone else that tries has another thing coming.
Pavlos Walker, Younger Brother: The cute one and the only other magical one, Callie didn't always have time for the baby of the family. But once she received her letter, she realised that Pav seemed to have the same sort of weirdness that she had, and that's drawn them closer, particularly after Pav was sent off to Hogwarts the year after Callie, being sorted into Gryffindor.
Rose Taylor: Callie used to collect mother-figures, in a roundabout way, and Rose is the most memorable of them all. She lived next door with her son, Peter (whom Callie detested), and her sole source of income was doing...questionable things with men. Much of what Callie knows about the ways of women has been learnt off Rose.
Benji Summers: It's the oddest of attractions, but the fact is, Callie has a minor obsession with Benji that developed over the holiday. Now that she's back, she's certainly not going to waste any time before alerting him to this fact. What Callie wants, she is determined to get, and she's never been turned down, ever.
Likes/Dislikes:
Likes: Football, watching Quidditch, dinnertime, running, a decent argument, strudel, boys with spirit, swimming, the colour blue, individuality, early mornings, dangerous creatures, boats, a decent snog or shag (she's not going to even try and pretend she's uncomfortable with her own sexuality)
Dislikes: Scouse, excessive cleanliness, the feel of makeup, fools/chauvinists/prigs/brats/airheads, those who think she is inferior for any reason, boys who assume she's sweet, mindless followers, Divination and any other hoity-toity mindless subjects, anyone that pries into her life, wearing anything brown (if endured eleven years wearing what was basically a brown sack, you would hate the colour too), laziness
Loyalties: Spoilt elitist brats are certainly unworthy of her respect. She's a Muggleborn and damn proud of it.
