Physical Description:
James Potter is Gryffindors great Quidditch star and has maintained a level of popularity and Style that rather enhances his moderate looks. Standing up straight, which he generally does, James manages an impressive 188 centimetres, and that doesnt even count the loft of his unruly black hair. The hair is a bit of a trademark for James. Throughout his seventeen years, it has withstood his every effort to dominate it, insisting on growing thick and every which way, with a particular affinity for sticking up in the back. This is a hairstyle that James has learned to embrace, rather than to fight, and he believes that it works rather well for him. Frequent attention, in the form of ruffling it with his hand, produces the effect of appearing as though he wears it that way by design, which elevates it to Style.
James is quite thin wiry, even and longs for the day when his shoulders and arms will fill out with some real masculine bulk. He would also like to find an alternative to his glasses, which are forever sliding down his overly long nose; hes yet to find a sticking charm for this that doesnt make his face break out all over.
Through an assortment of reckless stunts, James has acquired an impressive collection of scars. Madam Pomfrey could have healed most of them but James likes to prevent her at times, in order to keep a physical chronicle of his favorite injuries. He sports a shiny round scar by his left elbow that resulted from a nasty burn off of a wild firework. Theres a jagged line across his abdomen that he acquired in a rowdy brawl with Sirius and Remus one night, but he isnt sharing any details about that one. Hes got an assortment of smaller brown scars dotted around his hands and knees that each tell their own story. In addition, there is a thin, white line across his cheek, caused by a bit of dark magic at the hands of an enemy, which he would have preferred to get rid of if he could bad memories associated with that one.
Personality Description:
If there is one thing that James Potter has in spades, its Style. And Style, at its heart, is unrelated to the superficial adornments that students like to make so much of. When you get right down to it, Style is all about the way a young man carries himself, the way he speaks and reacts, and his unending confidence and self-control or at least the convincing appearance of such qualities. And James Potter demonstrates these qualities with unmitigated poise. Demonstrating them, of course, is not quite the same as really possessing them. While James knows what it is to be confident and controlled, he doesnt always feel that way, and the work associated with keeping up his image is tiresome at times.
In addition to maintaining his exceptional Style, James wages a daily battle with his own ego. He cant help the fact that hes brilliant and clever, and he cant stop excelling on the Quidditch pitch, or prevent girls from fancying him in droves. Hes proud of what hes accomplished and he enjoys the spotlight. What seventeen year old boy wouldnt let so much attention go to his head a bit? But, over the years, James has learned that it is easy for him to act far too proud, and that the people who are important to him dont appreciate that sort of behavior at all. Showing off can be a lot of fun when hes in the mood for some extra attention, but if James isnt careful he can come off as cruel, rather than mischievous, and cocky rather than bold and cruel and cocky are not terms James would like to have applied to himself at all. He knows he can be inconsiderate at times, and often vain, but he really doesnt think he is as bad as all that certainly not as bad as a certain Head Girl likes to color him to be.
For all of his posturing and showing off, however, James does have some excellent qualities. He is a good, motivated leader, and is intent on proving himself to be a good choice for Head Boy. While he does an awful lot of messing about, he is the kind of person that can really get things done when needed. In addition, and most importantly, James is a devoted friend, passionately loyal to those he cares about, and that sort of unwavering affection covers a multitude of sins.
Brief History:
Approximately one hundred and fifty years ago, Martin Potter partnered with his best friend, Mycroft Bowman, to develop a successful business negotiating and writing legal documents for wizarding businesses. They called it The Mycroft Martin Company, Legal Services for Wizard Businesses. The running joke in the office was that the illegal services were handled out back.
The Mycroft Martin Co. flourished under their intuitive sense of human nature, paired with good business sense and sound direction, and each of the friends made their share of quite a lot of money and acquaintances over the years. Martin Potter was proud of his success, certainly, but there was one joy that seemed to elude him. A son. Or even a daughter, for that matter. He and his gentle wife, Sara, had never been blessed with a child.
When Mycroft Bowman, Martins lifelong friend and partner, passed away at the age of one hundred and fifty one, Martin decided to retire. He just didnt have the heart to work without his friend, and he wanted to devote more time to his wife during the few years that they might have left to live. It was this extra attention that produced James Potter.
The Potters could not have been more pleased with their son. He was cherished and pampered, showered with every bit of love that they possessed. When he took his first steps, announcements were sent to every one of their extended connections, complete with photographs of little Jamie totting along and falling back to the floor with an adorable oomph! His first birthday every birthday for that matter was celebrated in high style, complete with unicorns and performers and backwards broomstick races, not to mention mountains of gifts. The arrival of his Hogwarts letter was no small event, to say the least.
With this sort of childhood, it was no wonder that James entered Hogwarts with an ego the size of Europe and the firm notion that he could do anything that he pleased so long as he set his mind to it. Under the wrong circumstances this sort of mindset could have been detrimental to poor James. It was fortunate, therefore, that the Sorting Hat placed him into Gryffindor with a collection of students who, for the most part, would not allow themselves to be bullied.
During his early years at school, James had to learn some lessons the hard way; lessons about teamwork and putting others first; lessons hed never had to learn at home; lessons he would never forget. And once he learned those lessons, James Potter proceeded to take Hogwarts by storm. He amassed a wide range of friends, adversaries, and admirers, all of who vied for his attention in some manner or another. Through the years, James continued grow, to make mistakes, to triumph, and to learn. And as he entered his seventh and final year at Hogwarts, James was not only Captain of the Quidditch team and Head Boy, but he was also well on his way to becoming an excellent young man.
Important Relationships:
Martin Potter (Father): James considers his father to be eccentric and often embarrassing, but when push comes to shove, James loves him, and wouldnt know what to do without him. As much as James makes a show of finding excuses to avoid spending time with him, when he needs real life advice, his father is always the one James turns to. Lately his fathers health has been declining, and in August he sat James down to review his Last Will and Testament an activity that upset James more than he was willing to admit. James recognizes that his parents are quite old, but the thought of losing them just yet is something he just does not want to consider.
Sara Potter (Mother): Oppressive is the word James would use to describe his mother; oppressive, in that I-Love-You-So-Much-I-Want-To-Squeeze-You-All-Of-The-Time sort of way, and it drives James up the wall. On the other hand, shes gentle and sweet and does everything in her power to make James happy, so he really cant complain. He can do no wrong in her eyes, and the lack of discipline on that front may have caused him some difficulties, but he loves her fiercely and would give up the world for her.
Sirius Black: According to his birth, James is an only child. According to his choice, James has a brother. That brother is Sirius Black. Granted, Sirius hadnt really lived with him until he was sixteen, but hed spent so much time in the Potters home that he already had his own room. James was pleased to make it official, but often worries over how the final break with his family affects Sirius. The boys are rarely seen without one another except for those occasions that require a bit of privacy with a pretty girl and back each other up in every kind of rabble rousing. They may disagree at times, even vehemently, but they will always be brothers, not matter what.
Remus Lupin: When James first learned about Remus furry little problem a point he would prefer not to elaborate on James was shocked, even a bit horrified, but he knew Remus, and once he calmed down enough to absorb the information, James was determined that it would never be cause for damaging their friendship. It may, in fact, have drawn them closer together. Call it a hero complex, or what you will, but he was dead set on finding a way to help his friend with this problem, going to great lengths, even to the point of breaking major wizarding laws to do it. Once they found the way another secret, sorry they have been closer than ever. With so many secrets, trust is important, and James would trust Remus with his life. James tries to keep Remus spirits up when he gets down, and Remus, for his part, helps James keep his feet firmly squared on the ground.
Peter Pettigrew: James thinks Peter is great. Hes like a favorite pet dog that you can play with, tell secrets to, and generally cause a ruckus with, and who is always around when you want him. In fact, even if you kick him when you get angry, youre still his best friend. James appreciates that kind of loyalty, and tries not to go overboard with teasing Peter, but sometimes its just so tempting Regardless, Peter is a good friend to James, and James would do anything in the world for him.
Lily Evans: Just as James has decided to accept his unruly hair the way that it is, hes decided to embrace the unruly Lily just the way that she is. He cant help but love her and hes tried to stop many times she just has this grip on his heart and wont let him go. Sometimes he thinks that Lily is on her way to giving him a chance, but most of the time hes convinced that his arrogant behavior destroyed all of his chances with her early on. Hes tried to move on, hes even tried dating other girls, but it no use. Lily Evans is the only girl for him. The only option for James, therefore, is to go about changing her mind.
Severus Snape: James makes no bones about the fact that he does not like Severus Snape. Hes never been too worried about Snape taking offense at this, since Snape hates him even more vehemently. Its is James firm belief that Snape is envious of his Quidditch talent as well as his general cleverness and popularity. He feels as though whenever he happens to look over his shoulder, Snape is right there, watching for him to slip up, hoping for an opportunity to get James into trouble. It is annoying to no end, and James alternately acts dismissive of him and then picks on him for sport.

Roleplay Sample:
Under any other circumstances, James would have found Disillusionment Charms fascinating. It was a charm hed always wanted to do - it would be dead useful - but he hadnt quite gotten the hang of it on his own. Professor Flitwick gave the instructions and set the class about practicing, but James couldnt focus. He was far too distracted by the cheeky red-head across the room. She was sitting next to Leo Dawson and flirting so much that James felt the heat of a blush creeping into his neck. Didnt she have any shame?
James ripped a piece of parchment from his notes, crumpling it with his fingers, and tucked it between his lips. As he sucked it against the roof of his mouth, he considered how much pleasure it would bring him to lob the wad of paper and spit right into the crown of Dawsons hair. He could make it too, with wand point accuracy. The only thought that stayed his hand was this: that Lily Evans was spending entirely too much energy trying to make him jealous. She wouldnt do that if she was indifferent. And as long as she wasnt indifferent, he still had a chance. Nailing Dawson in the head with a spit wad would not garner James any points with her.
He was determined to appear unaffected by her antics, however, and stared at his teacup. There was a point not long ago when James had really been so frustrated by Lily that hed decided to give up on her entirely. She claimed it was what she wanted. The next time hed seen her, of course, hed changed his mind. He couldnt give up on her. She just wouldnt let him.
Instead of staring at her, with her beautiful legs hanging over Dawsons lap, James distracted himself with thoughts of the time he and Lily had spent together alone; the tender smiles and caresses, the laughter and lovemakingbut those sweet memories were confined to the utter privacy of James dreams. If only they would happen in real life, James Potter could die a happy wizard.
Lily giggled at something Dawson said and James cringed. He spat the sodden wad of paper into his fingers and rolled it into a soggy ball, weighing it for a moment before he pressed it into the underside of the desk. He wished the lesson would be over soon. In the meantime, he went about pretending to practice Disillusioning. Maybe, if he got it, he could manage to disillusion himself.
How did you hear about PI?: You know me! : ) I hope.
