Occupation: Works as a clerk in a collectibles/hobby shop in the East End of London selling sports memorabilia and pool tables and the like. Doesn't pay much, but it allows him to spend all day talking footie with interested folk.
Physical Description: The most remarkable thing about Kelly is how completely unremarkable he is. He is a hair under 5'11" and of medium build. He is neither thin and lanky nor overly muscular; in fact he is most likely to get a bit thicker around the middle by the time he hits 40. It's a miracle he doesn't have more of a beer belly than he does as he spends as much time drinking as he does on the pitch nowadays.
Kelly's face is a long oval, ending in a rounded chin below tight, thin lips. The bridge of his nose is wide between his narrow deep-set green eyes. His most prominent feature is a decent sized mole above his upper lip on the right side. His hair is shaggy and medium brown; he wears it either short or long depending on if he has any spare money in his pocket when he passes a barber.
His face is rarely neatly shaved; he prefers to wear it in a pseudo-goatee for shear apathy. Kelly also sports several tattoos that he has collected over the years. On his hand running over his thumb onto the side of his index finger is the word "Veritas", Latin for truth. On the inside of his right bicep is a stylized black dragon with wings spread, and on his left pec is the outline of a red star. On the left side of his neck, there is an image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Finally on his left shoulder blade is a snarling lion standing atop the words "Memento Moris".
Personality Description: Kelly is a man's man. More than anything else he enjoys footie (being a die-hard Arsenal fan), a good ale, and playing snooker until all hours of the night with his mates. He's oftentimes the life of the party, bringing with him his famous dry wit and stony visage wherever he goes. Apart from the occasional snide remark, Kelly is incredibly gentle and caring, considering himself a pacifist in most areas of life. Being born and raised in a devout Catholic family Kelly is strong in his faith, attending church weekly at his local parish. Because of this he has learned to defend his faith quite firmly, as well as all of his other beliefs. If someone does something that offends Kelly's sense of right and wrong, he will most surely open his mouth about it, though he would never resort to blows.
He's also a huge animal lover, and has a six-year-old female American Bulldog named Nacho ("I like nachos, she likes nachos...it just stuck.") whom he loves dearly. She's his goalie on the pitch and his pillow at home, and he wouldn't have it any other way. Though Kelly is quick to defend his views, he's not exactly what one would call ambitious. He's content with his job, being surrounded with things he loves, and he doesn't mind that he lives in the smallest apartment in Lowell flats or that his last two girlfriends left him for his lack of motivation to get something better for himself. His redeeming factor, though, is he's really just a very sweet, very nice guy to be around.
Brief History: Kelly was the fourth of five children born to Colleen MacManus and Brian Gallagher of Kilarney, Ireland. The pair met at a local restaurant where Colleen worked and quickly hit it off. They dated briefly and tied the knot less than a year later, all before either of them hit 20. Brian continued his studies and earned his law degree, setting into a career as a moderately successful trial lawyer while Colleen worked to put him through school but later quit to take care of the household. A few years later their first child was born, dubbed Evan Liam Gallagher. Then every two or three years for the next decade another child came along. Next was Maura Bridgiet Gallagher, Jillian Cassidy Gallagher, Kelly Aiden Gallagher, and finally Ryan Shane Gallagher.
During their youth, Kelly's siblings filled shelf after shelf with trophies for everything from sports to academic achievements. Kelly, for what it was worth, couldn't be bothered. He was a rather brilliant striker as a kid, but he always whined when his parents suggested he join a league or a school team. He preferred pick-up games; regulations and referees sucked all the fun out of it. He was an average student, never as bright as Maura or Evan, and never trying as hard as Jillian and Ryan. He didn't care enough. His father
noticed this early on and always was a bit peeved at Kelly for failing to try harder. His way of motivating his son was mostly stern talking-tos, which had little affect. His mother on the other hand both tried to motivate Kelly and also to coddle him, once which seemed to counter-act the other.
After graduating from school Kelly decided that he was done with Kilarney; he packed up and moved from Ireland to Lancashire to attend Lancaster Uni. He spent three years there earning decent grades before he left, only three credits short from a bachelor's in history. Kelly moved down to London after realizing two things: first that Lancashire was too small for his taste, and second that even if he did get his degree, he wouldn't want to take any job where he'd use it. He just liked studying it, and he didn't need a piece of paper to prove that. So he found a small flat and a job at a hole-in-the-wall shop, but he was happy. His apartment slowly gained "decoration" in the form of pint glasses from local pubs and curling posters of the English national team.
Kelly had dated on and off for several years, but at Uni he met a girl named Maya who caught his fancy. Unfortunately they kept missing each other, and Kelly left Uni without ever getting so much as her name. On a stroke of fate he ran into her a few months later in London, and the pair began dating very seriously very quickly. About a year into their relationship (which Kelly was very happy with; he was head over heels for this girl), a huge bomb dropped. Maya revealed to Kelly that a few months ago she had been pregnant and had aborted the baby in secret. Kelly was devastated. As much as he loved her he was utterly confused and felt betrayed by her secrecy. He called it quits with Maya so he could get his head together, and he spent increasingly more time alone in his apartment.
Finally several months later Kelly pulled himself out of his depression deciding that yes, he should have a child now, but no, he didn't, and he'd have to go on living with that news. He went out and took the money he had saved by not going out to the pub nightly and bought an American Bulldog, whom he named Nacho after a solid month of calling her "Dog". Nacho became his favorite companion, joining him for everything from trips to the market to games on the pitch to Thursday-night telly on the couch. Kelly coddled the dog and gave her all the love and attention he would a child.
Kelly stayed at the same job, being promoted from clerk to footie specialists, and while it was an extra quid an hour, it meant little else. Kelly had always been good at snooker, having grown up with a table in his house, but he began entering tournaments and doing quite well, enough to supplement his income so he could finally buy a real bed (instead of just a mattress on the floor). He also met a bunch of new people, winning them over with his wit and kind charm. He dated sporadically, but is currently single again.
When they grew, Evan became a pilot and married a girl name Eliza; they are happily wed with three children of their own. Kelly loves being an uncle, but is still not close with Evan. Maura became a successful trail lawyer, doing much better than their father ever did, and she never married, though she dated frequently. Jillian became a designer and married a man named Jack, they have yet to have any children. Ryan is engaged to a lovely girl named Laurie, and they are set to marry in the spring.
