Hero of the Common Wizard, or Just a Crazy Old Man?
Yesterday in the letters section of the Daily Prophet there appeared a note from a certain Dynefor mab Lewis. He is, or so his letter claims, the last
surviving member of "one of the oldest pure blood houses in Wales," what ever that means. With the Welsh you never can tell; they all claim to be
direct descendants of Merlin on one side or the other, even if one grandfather was a butcher and the other a miner, so I take statements like that with a pinch
of salt. A LARGE one.
But who Dynefor mab Lewis is doesn't really matter much, compared to what he writes. And what he writes makes pretty interesting reading.
Mr. Lewis seems to think that the Ministry is unwilling, or maybe that should be unable, to deal with what Mr. Lewis calls "a War." Well,
all of my readers know that I wouldn't disagree with that. Almost every thing the Ministry has done to deal with the increased level of violence
in our world has been too little, too late, and too half hearted.
Now, I don't know if our Welsh correspondent is right in calling what is going on around us a "War." War seems like a pretty big thing to call
what looks to me like an almost random campaign of violence aimed at frightening Muggle-born Wizards into behaving themselves. But behaving themselves how? By
leaving everything up to the Pure Bloods of our society? It seems to Me, Myself and I that this is just the same attitude shown by the Ministry: leave
everything to us. I'm not so sure about Mr. Lewis 'War" but things ate getting really nasty out there, and it seems to Me, Myself and I that this
is really a power struggle between two groups of Big Heads who want to run our lives for us.
And I wouldn't mind if they kept the fighting between themselves. If they want to fight over who makes the rules and let us get on with living our lives, I
for one wouldn't complain.
But killing Muggles? How does that help anybody? They'll be shooting horses, next.
But I have to ask myself, when I read Mr. Welsh pure-blood's letter just what he proposes we do? "If you see something suspicious, even if in a family
member, do yourself and them a favor and stop this Rot before it consumes us all," he says. How do we stop the Rot, Mr. Lewis? By going out and fighting
Death Eaters, as you call them, ourselves? Now that sounds like a recipe for getting yourself killed. The Average Wizard and Witch isn't equipped
to deal with homicidal maniacs, thank you very much. That's what we pay the Aurors to do. Are you suggesting that we form Vigilante groups?
Because if that is what you mean, you are sounding much less like a Concerned Private Wizard and more like a Crazy Old Man.
A Crazy Old Man who wants to start a third Army to join in the fun and games? I certainly hope not! So as much as I can admire Mr. Dynefor mab
Lewis' commitment to peace, I seriously wonder if having random mobs of "Concerned Citizens" roaming our streets looking to "Stop the
Rot," isn't going to make matters worse. Nice sentiment, Dynefor, but try again.
In the meantime, Me, Myself and I will be searching tirelessly for the truth about the whole mess, just for you, dear reader.
