Anyca Corynn McTiernan
Name: Anyca Corynn McTiernan
House: Gryffindor
Year: 6th
Wand: Springy, 10”. Aspen with Dragon-Heartstring core.
Bloodline: Half-Blood (Muggle mother/Wizard father)
Birthday: 11/21/1963
Pet/Familiar: Lucilla, a small calico kitten found on the doorstep of her father’s shop in Diagon Alley.
Physical Description: At first glance, Anyca Corynn McTiernan looks a little older than fifteen standing at 5'7" with a lean athletic frame. Her face is a series of smooth planes and soft curves from her high cheekbones to her softly pointed chin. She has an easy contagious smile that reduces her large brown eyes to sparkling slits of mirth when she laughs.
Although overall Anyca looks more like her father, she inherited her mothers tanned skin and wild, unkempt curls. Her ebony curls, out of control as they are, can rarely be found loose about her shoulders. She ties her hair back to keep it out of her eyes most of the time. Although practicality would dictate that she cut them, her mother has always preferred that he daughters hair be long and Anyca complies without much argument, mostly because she doesn’t care either way.
Many of Anyca's mannerisms are boyish and even in her body shape there is a semblance of youthful androgyny. The sports and activity of her youth have smoothed what curves she might have to a lean, tight physique from her
long strait legs to her firm upper body.
Anyca prefers the casual comfort of muggle clothing to the billowy formality of robes and can be often be found in tightly fitted jeans and tank-tops, spaghetti-straps, or snug t-shirts in a range of colors. She tends to wear dark rich colors, namely dark red, black, and several shades of blue and green. Her simplistic dress doesn’t change much during the winter time when she dons a hoodie over aforesaid clothing.
As for jewelry and make-up, Anyca wears no make-up at all with the exception of lip-gloss on occasion. Her dark hair eliminates the need for enhancement to her already dark eyes. Anyca’s ears are pierced twice each and in them she wears small silver hoops, except on the left side there is also a silver cuff at the top. She collects rings, wearing at least ten but usually twelve or more at any given time. Most of them are silver.
There is a confidence to her walk, the sway of her hips is becoming more apparent as age catches up with her, although Anyca remains completely unaware of it.
Personality Description: Playful and witty are the words most would use to describe Anyca, mischievous and wry are the ones those who know her best would choose. Anyca loves to be outdoors and on the go, whether playing sports or having lunch on the grass with a group of friends, she is rarely found inside or alone. In fact, one could honestly say that she dislikes being alone and has made friends of all types in her efforts to avoid it. She has no biases about friendships and seems to follow a strict personal code when dealing with people from any background, giving most people the benefit of the doubt and assuming they are a worthy companion until they prove otherwise.
Despite her easygoing nature, Anyca does have a temper. She can be pushed and pushed and when it has gone too far, you will know without fail that you have made her angry. Being tomboyish and forward as she is, Anyca has been in more fights than most of the girls her age and she rarely uses magic to get her point across.
When an individual has pushed her far enough to be deemed an enemy, they are treated with a cold contempt that would seem most unlike her. She is not aggressive unless provoked, but can be just as icy and unwelcoming to the few that she dislikes as she is friendly to the many friends that she has.
Unlike most young people, or at least those around her age, Anyca isn't yet troubled by self-discovery or the pain of self-consciousness. She doesn't really care what anyone thinks and comes across as confident, friendly, and easy-going. She has also been described at times as aloof by those around her and has a history of speaking before thinking when concerning peoples feelings. Her cavalier nature has a history of making her seem insensitive to others, though she can often see things from their point of view she chooses to remain somewhat indifferent, often believing that they would rather have their privacy intact as she herself prefers.
Although you wouldn’t think so, Anyca is also quite secretive. Not that she has many devilish secrets to keep, but she is very private about her darker feelings, about the things that have hurt her in the past, and about her fears. As social as she is, the girl doesn’t speak of her family much with friends and most of her relationships remain rather surface friendly and superficial. It is a rare person that is truly let into her confidence.
As for habits, Anyca is neat I with her belongings and her appearance, but not overly concerned with decorum.
Brief History:
Anyca, unlike most of the students from Hogwarts is originally from the U.S. Her father was born in Scotland and moved to America to study the native plants in his post-Hogwarts years. America was just one of his many stops on his search for a deeper understanding of the world herbs. In doing so, he met Anyca's mother who at the time was a student at New York State University and was in her second year. They met at a party near the college and Anyca was the surprise result. A surprise that prevented her mother from getting her degree in anthropology.Being young and unprepared to care for a child, Malakai married Anyca’s mother and brought her home with him to Dumphries, Scotland when their daughter was still a year old. Anyca’s grandparent's, in their failing years, gave them a place to live in exchange for their care. Jessica became caretaker to Anyca’s grandmother when she fell ill.
When Anyca was three years old, her parents were blessed with a second child and Anyca with a little brother that they called Ashe. He was a planned child whose birth was meant to mend the holes in a difficult relationship. Malakai’s quiet thoughtful nature and plans for opening his own shop left Jessica, a flighty and active woman, at home with her daughters home schooling and her husbands parents more often than not and a bitterness welled up inside of her as the years dragged on.
It was the year after Ashe was born that Anyca’s grandmother passed away. She was still very young at the time and didn’t fully understand the death. She hadn’t known her grandmother very well in any case, given that she spent most of her waking hours out of doors.
The year that Anyca left for Hogwarts, her parents spent the months while she was away moving father apart. The abruptness of their engagement was reflected in the abruptness of their falling out. Anyca came home to a house divided. For the sake of their children, Malakai and Jessica made every effort to work out their differences, to stay together, but with every passing year, Anyca came home to more distance.
To avoid her parents and the awkwardness that developed when they were together, Anyca began spending her summer weeks with her grandfather outside. He taught her about Quidditch and they spent more hours speaking of the wizarding world than she ever had with either of her parents. He was filled with stories of his former exploits and they became very close during her first and second year at Hogwarts.
The year her grandfather died was a complicated one in Anyca's life. She had never known loss before, despite her grandmothers death only a few years before. He was her mentor, he hero, and her favorite person in the living world and it shocked her to lose him.
Although her mother tried to be a comfort, there was a kind of fellowship in the suffering of she and her father. Malakai had loved his father dearly and provided more comfort to Anyca than her mother ever could. The whole disaster, in the long run, made Anyca more independent of her mother for better or for worse.
It didn't take more than two years before Anyca started playing quiddich at school and even less time for her to discover that she loved it passionately and intended to make it her career one day. Her grandfathers death and her parents estrangement only made the sport more of a focus for her, she devoted her attentions to it to escape thoughts of home. Ever since that summer she has worked diligently in all of her classes to maintain her right to play and has been early for every practice.
When her parents finally split up, another shock to her perfect world, Anyca elected to live with her father above his newly opened student apothecary in Diagon Alley rather than stay with her mother and she was separated from her little brother. She is silent about the divorce still, one would assume that she didn’t care either way if they didn’t know her. Secretive about her feelings, and aching with guilt over having to choose between her parents, Anyca elected to go with her father so that he would not be alone. Her mother still had Ashe after all.
Although she visits her mother, who remained in Humphries, for part of the summer and every other Christmas, Ashe and Anyca are somewhat unfamiliar with one another. She is nervous and excited that her brother should start attending Hogwarts that she may get to know him a little better. As an older sister, she sometimes feels guilty for leaving, as if she left him for some reason.
Important Relationships:
Malakai McTiernan - Anyca's father and owner of a little herb and element shop in Diagon Alley. A serious man with contemplative gray eyes and a thoughtful smile. Anyca got his dark hair and intense gaze. As far as their relationship goes, it is polite and comfortable. Anyca is extremely social but when she’s with her family, the people that one is supposed to be open with, she is a little closed off. Her father believes that his daughter blames him for the divorce when it really has nothing to do with it.
Jessica Marcus - Anyca's mother who she visits on occasion and with whom her younger brother lives. Being of a lively nature, with a wide smile and somewhat forthright mannerisms, Jessica is where Anyca got most of her personality. Although more alike in personality than she and her father, Anyca and Jessica don’t know how to relate to one another. Jessica spent the earliest part of her daughters life believing somewhere deep down that the child was the reason her career never escalated, and Anyca chose to live with her father rather than stay with her mother. The mutual guilt gives their relationship a formality quite unlike either female.
Asher McTiernan - Anyca's 13 year old brother. A total opposite of his sister with his wide serious eyes and shy little smile. Ashe is a wild mixture of his parents but some resemblance between brother and sister is there. Anyca doesn’t know how to feel about her younger brother, mostly because he is so quiet and shy. During her visits he spends most of his time in his room, reading, writing, studying, or playing with his toys. Anyca, being as outgoing as she is, can’t bring herself to invade his little world because she somehow feels that she doesn’t belong in it.
Megan Lodge - The best friend. Despite a few obvious differences between them, Anyca and Meg became good friends in their third year. Friendly competition during Quidditch matches between their two teams led to the girls becoming familiar acquaintances and between-class friends in the middle of the year but it was the week after returning from winter break that cemented the companionship between them. Anyca came back to school with troubles from home and provided and ear for Meg when her mother died. There exists a playful understanding between that allows for safe passage between jokes and seriousness.
Grant McKinney - Anyca met Grant on the train in their second year. The simple facts that they both love Quidditch and he brings out the goofy ridiculous side in her are enough to keep them close. Although they have spent more than a little time together over the last three years playing pranks on teachers and making noise in class, and even more time in detention together because of both - there has never been anything more between them than just friendship.
Likes/Dislikes: Food, friends, Quidditch, laughter, and herbology are just a few of Anyca's favorite things. She doesn't mind the idea of reading and writing, but the slow pace of both activities keeps her from them as recreation, (unless you count Quidditch magazines.) And as mentioned before, Anyca loathes being by herself.
Loyalties - Personal and Family: Anyca is a careful balance between her parents whose divorce was neither riotous or bloody in the end. It ended quietly with a few tears and a lot of mature politeness, however painful it was. Anyca rides the line between them with careful precision trying to make neither feel preferred nor disliked.
As far as friends and relationships go Anyca is loyal and patient with everyone to a point and can be hard and unforgiving when her boundaries are crossed. She does not suffer cruelty to herself or those that she considers friends and will not let even the closest companions abuse of others go uncorrected.
As is in her nature, she could care less as to the bloodline of a particular person and has friends of all backgrounds and bloodlines. She tends to have a large amount of disdain for purist families and wizards who look down on others for their bloodline, or lack thereof. The simple fact that her own mother is a muggle is partially responsible.

Roleplay Sample: "Let's get it together!" Anyca's voice boomed out over the field as the rest of the team gathered up for practice all geared and ready, half-heartedly adjusting their uniforms. First practice of the year and although Anyca was far from team captain yet, she was already taking charge on the field.
A quick once over of her own uniform and she was striding toward mid-field and standing beside the ball-box being overseen by the actual team captain. She gave him a winsome smile when he scowled a little at her announcement in his place as she produced a hair tie from her pocket and stuck it in her teeth. Her hands worked through her wild locks for a few seconds as everyone gathered up and she tied the raven mess back and out of her face for the time being.
She was ready, her heart was pounding with excitement. The call was made and she mounted her broom her fingers gripping the smooth wood with nostalgic comfort. Yeah, this was going to be a good year. It always felt like that at the beginning and she always remembered it being at the end.
And when the whistle sounded she was in the air, rising forcefully from the grassy turf. Her stomach did back flips as the rush took over and she couldn't helped smiling while rocketing into the air. Her father couldn't afford much, but he was careful of his daughters broom quality and she liked this new model even more than the last. Familiarity with the game and her position let her know when the height was right, she positioned herself carefully between the beaters and awaited the ball toss. Her green eyes grazed over the seeker as he whizzed overhead, tightly wound and already searching the cloudy sky.
She could smell the rain coming and wondered if they would continue practice if a downpour started up. She might have been the only player not to care. The wind pulled at her curls as she waited and Anyca took a deep breath as the balls were released. She watched the snitch dodge out of sight and then followed the team captains gaze as the quaffle was tossed into play. Before the breath was let out, she was gone tearing down the field with the other chasers.
If you want your character to be on the Quidditch Team, a Prefect, or a Club President, you must put that information here - As is probably quite obvious, Anyca will be trying out for the Quidditch team. The RP sample places her as a chaser but any position would be perfectly fine.
