Physical Description: From head to toe, Raven works to keep up a very specific image of herself. She rises a good two hours before breakfast in order to spend the necessary time working on her dark brown, long hair. From potions to charms, it takes her upwards of an hour to get her naturally straight hair to hold the curl that she desires and to keep a shimmer. From there she meticulously applies makeup, always with the goal of making her dark brown eyes the focus. By the time she had swept blush onto her cheekbones and painted on her lipstick, she is no longer the same girl she was upon waking in the morning. This makeup and hair routine defines her, in her own eyes and she has never been seen without full makeup since she turned twelve - before that she was never seen without blush and lip gloss. For that matter her hair hasnt felt the confinement of a ponytail or braid since then, either.
Lest it be thought that she ends her regimen here, lets continue on, shall we? Before all this hair and makeup work is started, she begins her day with a shower after which she applies unscented lotion to her pale skin skin she keeps from sun exposure as much as humanly possible and then adds a generous amount of various body spray scents (all depending on her mood). She does tend to have a few favorites, those being a vanilla one and a jasmine scent.
She doesnt have the most lithe of figures. For that matter she would call herself fat when in a foul mood and plump when in a generous one. She certainly doesnt have a stick thin body, but rather has curves and plenty of them. They didnt develop out of thin air, though. Rather, until puberty struck, she was definitely of the chunky variety of child. That fat didnt disappear, instead it moved to different spots giving her those womanly curves that older women would never call fat, but which she and most teenagers fret and worry over.
Ah, but there is one part of this curvy, womanly body that she does love: her breasts. Perhaps not yet as large as she hopes they will become, she has already noticed that boys eyes will roam in their general direction and thus she takes care to wear clothing that will enhance, and not detract, from her figure. She carries herself in such a way as to take full advantage of her favoured asset.
In terms of her clothing, she is just as particular and fussy as she is in every other area of her physical being. She would never be seen in last years (or even last months) style, nor would she ever put on the fashion trends of the Muggle world. Instead, she sticks strictly to wizarding wear and spends time in Gladrags every Hogsmeade weekend purchasing new clothing items. During both the summer and Christmas holidays, she gets new robes (even new school robes) and shoes and hats, nearly replacing her wardrobe every time.
Personality Description: Raven is an incredibly vain witch and has a need to always be seen looking and behaving her best. Even when she is engaged in slander and gossip, she does it in such a manner that it could all be construed as mere concern rather than an attempt to hurt another. Make no mistake, she has little concern for the person she may be speaking about, but she has learned how to put the right spin on it and make it sound less nefarious than it is. She has a deep need to always be viewed in a positive light and for others to think nothing but good about her. That the best way to go about this would be to actually be a positive and good person is far beyond her for she has learned from her mother that it is all about appearances; what happens behind-the-scenes has little to do with the public mask one puts on.
Raven is the sort that will find faults in everyone from the style and cut of non-school robes to the feathering of a witchs hair to the manner in which a lad lounges in a chair. Do you have a big nose? Shell point it out, with smug whispers to the friend next to her. Did your mum botch your haircut over the holidays? To your face shell tell you it looks just wonderful, as you turn to walk away with a new bounce in your step, shell be exchanging a knowing glance with another. No one is safe from her nitpicking ways, though she would deny it if a friend ever called her on it, complete with an expression of hurt thrown into the mix. Having been raised by a mum who expected perfection from her at all costs, she can hardly be blamed for her own impossible to reach standards or so she would argue were anyone to blame her.
Ah, but she does have a filter that keeps her from destroying her friendships. To those she admires and considers equals, she is more than careful to keep ill words from tripping from her mouth about them. Unless she can do it in such a manner that it will never be pinned on her. And then she will only do such when the other has given her cause to do so. Just cause being a relative term. An imagined slight or snub can send her into a tailspin as destructive as a real slight. Drama is not something that is far from this girls friendships, to put it in simple terms.
With her parents, much of this is dampened and she becomes a rather meek, ineffective creature. She desperately wants her mothers approval, even if she often entertains hateful visions and scenarios involving the self-centered woman; and her father, she just wants him to really see her; to really notice her. While at school, she buries these inadequacies with her own self-centeredness and aloofness. When it comes to her brother, she is an altogether different creature. She adores Henry to a degree that is almost unhealthy. Around him she is quick to smile and slow to complain. He can do no wrong in her eyes and she gives him no reason to think ill of her.
In relation to Professors and others in authority, she does what she can to not rock the boat. She believes that it is always for the best to have them on her side and is prone to acting the teachers pet if it will get her ahead or get her out of some minor trouble. This spills over into her studies. Though she is not the strongest in her classes, she never shirks her work or turns in subpar work. Still, with her focus on the outward, she doesn't spend nearly enough time on her studies to pull more than E's and A's.
Brief History: Joseph Sinclair descends from a line of muddy heritage. Though the Sinclair name is a well established pureblood line, choices made by those before him had thrown the name into questionable status and by the time he reached the appropriate age for a wife, things were quite precarious. It was with this very untenable situation that he went to his father with a list of pureblood families with daughters of marriageable age. With his fathers guidance and help, he was able to enter into marriage with Olivia Truss a well respected pureblood line. Though she was five years his senior, and not his first choice, she was agreeable to the situation (having been unable to be married off herself).
From this union, two children were born: Henry Rigel Sinclair and, two years later, on June 10, 1962, Raven Jezebel Sinclair. Her mum doted upon Raven from birth. No, doted isnt quite the right word. She was pampered and petted, more like a family pet than anything else. Not that she her mum raised her. That would be putting far too many expectations upon the head of the former Ravenclaw and pureblood. Instead the governess who had been hired upon the birth of Henry was given the task of raising the tiny girl, for tiny she had been.
Her early years were happy, more or less. The familys home, at the outer reaches of London, was vast and well-kept and her lessons kept her amused and busy. Like other purebloods of means, she learned to ride horses, memorized magical theory, spent time practicing etiquette and deportment, learned Latin. When not engaged in lessons, she would spend hours pouring over the latest fashions in the wizarding magazines that poured into the house. Clothing, from the time shed been old enough to unwrap her own gift, had enthralled her and that obsession only grew as she aged. By the time she was eight, she fancied herself a fashion expert and wouldnt be caught dead in anything that was not fresh from the wizarding runways.
Despite her fathers stoic disapproval, her mum was quick to grab onto this facet of her daughters personality and worked to prefect it even more, turning what would likely have been a passing stage in the girls life to a lifestyle. She took care to keep the young Raven perfectly coifed and, at the age of nine, had the young girl in minimal makeup (blush and lip gloss). By the time Raven left for school, she was armed with an arsenal of make-up, nail supplies and every imaginable style of earring, necklace, and other such bits of frosting, as her mum called it.
She has never let up on any of those particulars and with care packages arriving weekly (and often more) her mother has kept her well turned out. A beautiful mother-daughter relationship this may appear, but it not. Raven, though still one to love her style and always insistent on looking her best, has never felt like she could please her mother. It is a complex relationship between the two.
At eleven, when she marched down the aisle between the tables in the Great Hall her cat, Pretentious, at her heels, she looked to be a child model taking her moment on the catwalk even if she had to wear the entirely unfashionable uniform and robes. Perching herself upon the stool when her name was called, she gave the smallest of pleased smiles when the hat put her into her brothers House and, with a supreme effort at not behaving like she was eleven, she made her way to the table and took a prim seat next to her older brother.
Hogwarts has been a good place for her. Though she misses much of the relative freedoms she has at home, she enjoys the interaction with others and loves being around her brother without their mum getting in the way all the time. She does well enough in her classes and is respectful to those she must be respectful to. Being involved in school activities and clubs is important to her as well if only for appearances sake.
Important Relationships:
Joseph Sinclair: She views her father as a gift giver, for that is what he is to her. With his job as a diplomat, he is often off to another country and when he gets back he invariably gives her a gift. She aches to have a closer relationship with him, but a distance is between them that neither have the ability to overcome. Olivia made it clear when Raven was born that Joseph was to keep his fingers out of the raising of her. That command created the start of a wall between father and daughter that has not been overcome. Her cat, Pretentious, was one of these gifts when she was seven.
Olivia Sinclair: She loves her mother to a degree. Though she would never be one to condone talk about her mother that is anything but flattering, she has dark thoughts about the woman often. For one simple reason: her mother has never ceased to criticize and nitpick since she can recall. Even when Raven spends hours making sure she has her appearance and style prefect, her mum, inevitably, will point out a flaw. When Raven is home for holidays she's expected to play the part of the doted upon daughter and to be with her mum for a variety of daily reasons from tea to constitutionals in the garden
Henry Rigel Sinclair: She calls him Rigel. She adores her older brother and relies upon him for the love and acceptance that she never has received enough of from her parents not that she would be able to ever put words to that. As it is, he is in a category all of his own and can do no wrong in her eyes.
Roberta Bobby Blythe Gladys Calthorpe-Beynon-Willoughby : Enemy. Raven insists on calling her Roberta. More to be worked out later.
Brandon Crosson: She has never been quite able to make up her mind what she feels about the wizard. From their early years at school, she deemed him a complete annoyance, but his inability to just leave her alone - and Pretentious's irritating choice to like the boy - have kept the two of them running into each other. When he ran across her in tears during her fourth year, things between them shifted just enough that she finds herself daydreaming about him sometimes.
Likes/Dislikes:
Likes: makeup; clothing; nail polish; looking well-turned out; her brother; clairs; bare feet on the grass (though she would never let anyone know); her cat.
Dislikes: others doing/looking/being better than her; mornings; alarm clocks; her mothers constant nitpicking
Loyalties - Personal and Family: Raven is a pureblood believer even if she is not fully pure herself. Its a conflict of interests, to be sure, but she holds firm to the superiority of purebloods. As for her father and mother, they are of the same belief, her father having married her mother for that very reason. As for the war, she leans the way her brother does no matter what changes he makes in his views. Yes, she is terribly waffle-y about it.
