RIP: Elphias James Haddock IV 11/9/1979
It hadn't taken long for Tobias to determine precisely which masque goer was the pansy; in fact, it had been almost too easy. Over the course of the last two months of school, he and Kalle had spoken about the Hufflepuff often coming up with elaborate plans to embarrass the other or to hex him. Things may have remained on that level of nothing more than talk had Noah not patted Tobias in the arse and called him sweetheart a few days back. That had sent the Head Boy into an internal rage which he'd taken out on a pair of second years he'd found heading back to their commons one minute after curfew; the young kids weren't at the Masque.
That rage hadn't dissipated. Throughout the evening he'd kept an eye on the other and, when he caught sight of Noah leaving the venue, he knew the time had come. Finding Kalle had been easy and, leaning close, he'd whispered that it was the right moment. Taking care to leave the room as unobtrusively as possible (though he and Kalle both had those who'd lie for them) they made their way across the grounds keeping far enough back from Noah until they knew where he was headed. Moving around another way, they came into the perimeter of the woods just as Noah reached the tree.
"Did I mention," he commented from behind his masque, "that the beard looks like shite on you? At least it will keep your identity covered." Giving the other a grin that couldn't be seen, they started towards Noah.

Davy'd had a blast at the Masque. Nothing surprising there, for the lad always managed to have fun no matter the circumstances. Even Cass's lack of enthusiasm over his costume hadn't dampened his spirits in the least. True, dancing and snogging had been a bit of a challenge, but what was life without the challenges? Fun challenges, mind, not the serious ones. He could very easily live without those. Too bad he was about to face one of those serious ones. He didn't know that as he'd been looking about the room for Noah. When Cass mentioned that she'd seen him leaving earlier, his eyes had brightened and he recalled something about Noah saying he was going for a smoke. If that had been ten minutes ago or an hour, he couldn't recall, but he gave Cass a kiss, popped his bowler had on top of her head and told her he'd be back in a bit. That was a good fifteen minutes ago. In that time he'd run across Cody, who didn't know where Noah was either, and the two were now scouring the corridors. They'd be at it still had they not run into a kid who'd said he'd seen someone that matched Noah's costume walking across the lawn. Once they'd ascertained the direction, they'd been off. "Probably down by that stump, you think?" he asked. "Bit of a bummer that the bloke missed the unmasking."

Cody had been making his hasty getaway after stealing something that his dance-partner seemed like she wanted to give him anyway when he almost ran into Davy. Had it not been Davy the teen would have been pissed, but after a five second conversation he found himself searching the school for their mutual friend. He hadn't even seen Noah at the Masque but knew he must have been there. Everyone had been there, even he himself had somehow managed to find a reason to show up.
"Probably down by that stump, you think?" he asked. "Bit of a bummer that the bloke missed the unmasking." He gave Davy a nod and, stuffing his hands in his pockets against the chill headed farther out. The forest loomed ahead of the pair, dark and foreboding as always and for some reason his gaze was drawn to it, also as always. The moon was bright, it seemed, until they needed it to be as clouds scudded overhead darkening the lawns and making the whole affair seem impossible. If he was worried, he didn't show it, and he was beginning to be. The teen was about to call out his name when the clouds parted and the moon brightened over a figure became visible on the forest edge.
Slumped and unmoving, Cody hesitated trying to make it out before nudging Davy with one hand and running that towards it. "Noah?" He called out ahead. Then, when it became clear it was their missing friend he slid down next to him, half on his hip and turned him over.

As if finding him here in the dark in a heap wasn't enough, Cody barely evaded the vomit as it sluiced out of Noah and onto the grass near his knees. The teen sighed and tried to make sure his sick friend stayed on his side. It wasn't drug induced, it wasn't alcohol either for Cody couldn't smell it on him. He wanted to grill the poor kid about what happened but now, in the grass in the dark, wasn't the time.
Without thinking about it, the Gryffindor glanced around the yard in search of who might be responsible. They would be long gone by now, it was more perfunctory than anything and he started shifting Noah's lower half so he was on his back again. "C'mon, time to get you inside." He grunted a little as he prepared to pick him up and gave Davy a look that seemed to imply "Let's do this." Concern was beginning to etch itself all over the boys face, which would be shortly followed by rage.
"Who d'you suppose I'm going to have to kill for this?" He asked quietly, starting to think there was something serious happening to his friend as he sobbed and twitched in half-consciousness. Somehow he was thinking he should have kept a better watch on his friends during the party, which was absurd because it's not like this kind of shit happened a lot.

Hearing Noah mutter Haddock's name sent a cold fire through him all at once. He was more than pissed now. Some fucking school appointed authority figure there. It only seemed to prove a point about snotty purist assholes anyway, Cody mused bitterly as he lifted Noah as gently as possible form the sodden ground and shifted the weight uncomfortably. His silence was the type you can hear, the kind that pops with reactive anger as they started to move the rather cumbersome form of Noah across the lawn toward the castle.
The distance had never looked so far, he thought, as they awkwardly managed to tote their friend between them. It's not that Noah was heavy, because he wasn't really at all, considering the two of them - but he was limp and cumbersome to maneuver especially dangling there like a human hammock. Once they got him through the main doors, after a short flight of steps that seemed like six flights Cody shoved open the door roughly and caught it with his leg.
He might have lost if it the teen hadn't yelled at a second year to hold the door for them and the kid obeyed wide-eyed as they passed. "Have you ever seen this before?" He grunted at Davy while pushing forward, referring of course to the hex that still had Noah very much under its control.
