Occupation: Interrogation Specialist, Auror Department and DE
Wand: Rigid, 12 inches, Rowan with Dragon Heartstring core.
Birthday: January 26, 1951
Pet: Flynn, his female Crup
Physical Description: Elphais carries himself with a confidence and awareness of self that few possess at his age and which he chalks up to both his Auror training and his desire to be aware of himself. His light blue eyes view the world with a bit of a cockiness that he has developed during his years as an Interrogation Specialist. He works out fairly regularly, though the hint of love handles have been noticed in the mirror something he tends to brush off as nothing.
He wears his hair in varying stages of scruff, though he didn't always. Back in his Prefect and Head Boy days he was the epitome of the clean cut good boy. Once he started Auror training, though, he found that he preferred to let his hair grow and now, outside of the few times his mum or Charlotte make comment, he does little but wash, run fingers, and go.
Though he went through a stage where he believed he could best serve the Dark Lord and the cause of purity by surrounding himself with the Muggle filth which they are working to exterminate from the Wizarding World, he has since put away his Mugglewear (though he keeps a few pairs of jeans he has a weakness for and two long-sleeved shirts he can't bear to part with) and is found proudly wearing his robes and dress robes and cloaks.
Personality Description: Bold and aggressive, Elphais is a very impatient individual. He would rather get on with the show than waste time and cannot work well with those who he deems slow-witted in comparison to himself. He picks up things with an amazing ease often needing only to learn something once before it is ingrained in his long-term memory (something which comes in handy with his chosen profession).
Morally and ethically, he is a very complex individual. To others he comes off as the poster boy for morals and ethics. Deep down, however, is a maelstrom of conflict. Often he can justify any choice he makes and this has led him to make any number of unwise choices in his life. In a simple word, he sees much of life as relative. Its not a case of the ends justifying the means, simply that what to one may seem evil, to another seems not so.
In his relationship to the opposite sex, he is equally as complex. He desires, more than anything, to find that one true love; someone with whom he may share all his dreams, fears, hopes and whatnot. Still, even when in the midst of a satisfying relationship, he yearns for the unknown. Its a destructive cycle that has left a string of wounded (and in some cases vindictive) hearts behind him.
Much in his life, young though he is, has changed since he first left the protective walls of Hogwarts. Owing to a mistake made early in life (that of marrying a Muggleborn from the simple fact that he was swept away with lust and the belief that he needed to break away from all he had been raised with), he was, for a time, considered a black sheep amongst much of his family and most of the pureblood society. This affected him in many ways as he drew away from the people he had grown up with and around (not too mention it caused him and his former fiancee, Charlotte, to become estranged). He threw himself into trying to make it in a world he was not really a part of and through this experiement came to compromise much of what he believed. Namely that of the purity of magical blood. How, or why, that changed, he is not entirely sure, but through the leading of an older gentleman - true to the cause of the Dark Lord - he regained his former beliefs and now, after much internal battle, has almost maniacally come back to the ways of the pure.
This has caused him to have low tolerance for any opinions that do not match, entirely, with his own for he has 'been there' and 'seen the reality of the Muggle scourge'. Talk of Muggle Rights, Muggleborn Rights or the like make his very soul shudder though, as an Auror, he must plaster that 'poster boy' image upon his face and agree wholeheartedly even while he undermines that very talk by his actions for his Dark Lord. As he gets further into the world of the Death Eaters, he has found he has more and more distaste for his line of work; he remains where he is only at the Dark Lord's insistence.
Brief History: Born to Elphais James Haddock III and Jacqueline Haddock (of the Barrister line), Elphais was the first born of the family. Life was pleasant enough for him growing up at Peny-Cwm-Cuic Hall in Falmouth on the Southern coast of Cornwall. He lacked for nothing in the realm of the material, but he lacked, deeply, in the love and care of his parents. It wasnt that they didnt love him but neither his mother nor father were around enough to give him that all-important parental love and guidance that he needed so very desperately.
When he was eleven, his younger brother, Tobias, was born. He was never very keen on this, though as he started Hogwarts that same year, he chose to pretend that the younger sibling did not exist.
His governess, Marybelle Ackley, a severe and sharp woman, raised him, as such. Lessons in language, magical theory, horsemanship, archery, elocution and penmanship were part of his daily fare from the time he was old enough to walk. By the time he was accepted into the halls of Hogwarts, he felt more than a little prepared for his role in life. As was expected, he was sorted into his fathers house of Ravenclaw (a house that every Elphais James Haddock had been sorted into for time immemorial) and thus began his career as a student. He excelled in his studies and in his fifth year won the prefect position for his house. In his seventh year (1968-1969), as was expected, the bright boy got the coveted Head Boy spot (his father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather all having held the position in their own respective time periods).
During his seventh year he finally managed to gain the full attentions of Charlotte, a fellow prefect who hed had his eye on for a few years (not that he didnt still date a string of other girls). The two began dating and he started on his first serious relationship, all qualms pushed aside. Here was the girl who he had always imagined existed and yet had always thought hed never find. The two often found themselves blurry-eyed and almost brain-dead in class from lack of sleep as they spent hours together talking about anything and everything. Upon graduation, he proposed to her and life seemed wonderful.
Graduating with top honors and seven Os in his NEWTs under his belt, he entered into the Auror training program finding his niche in the interrogation specialist course of study in the matter of months although he did consider, for a short time, working as a linguist. Upon his graduation from Auror training, he stepped into his position at the Ministry and has become one of the best Interrogation Specialists in the Auror department in some time.
It was during his time in Auror training that he met another girl, and though he was still madly in love with Charlotte, Sharri and he quickly grew close. Through long, intense hours of Auror training, he started to fall for her and their affair began five months before he called off his engagement to Charlotte. In July of 1972, a month after graduating from Auror training, (two months after calling things off with Charlotte) he and Sharri were married in a small, but elaborate, wedding. The marriage lasted one year; a divorce because he found out she wasn't as pure as he thought she was.
The marriage had irreparably destroyed his relationship with Charlotte, as is to be expected - not too mention had lifted many a brow in pureblood society. He threw himself into a mix of work and a string of short relationships in some attempt to find himself and heal what couldn't be healed. It was during this time that he became friends with an older gentleman in the Ministry. A mentoring of sorts grew between them and Elphais found himself often turning to the older man for advice on everything from work to life.
What he didn't know was that the pureblood gentleman had an agenda and it was one that ended with Elphais, on November 2, 1976, being branded with the Dark Mark by He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. He didn't want to; he was willing to die rather than do so. It was the threat to Charlotte that had him doing it even as he knew that it forever sealed their inability to become anything ever again.
Since that dark day in his life, much has changed. The older Death Eater has continued to mentor him and, once he came to accept the reality of the situation, he has come back to the fold without question. Though he may not be the most fanatically faithful of Death Eaters, he is unswerving in his service to the Dark Lord even to the point of having moved back to his childhood manor to take up his proper place as head of the household.
Important Relationships:
Father, Elphais Haddock III: The two do not have what one could label a close relationship. Often times the two find themselves at odds with each other and Elphais is often frustrated with what he considers to be weakness and indecision on his fathers part. In the summer of 1977, his father was killed in the attack on Diagon.
Mother, Jacqueline Barrister: He loves his mother, but has never felt close to her. Even after his father's death, he hasn't had much of any use for her; for her part, she has only further distanced herself from Elphais in the aftermath.
Ex-Fiancee, Charlotte Dupree: He met the witch at Hogwarts as per the history. An attempt at friendship didn't work as they both had too much they never dealt with. Currently he loves her desperately from afar.
Brother, Tobias Haddock: He loves his brother, though he refuses to acknowledge that love. His brother has been doted upon by both his late father and still by his mother. It has erected a wall between that two that neither knows how to break down.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Elphais has a quick mind, a must in his job at the Ministry. His confidence has assisted him through many a tough spot in his life as well. Patience and a degree of amorality are his weaknesses.
Likes: women who wear red lipstick; peanut butter and banana sandwiches; riding horses; camping; the ocean
Dislikes: weakness; indecisiveness; mornings

"I just want peace and quiet in my head. I can't find it in the bars or in my bed."

His view on women: Elphais doesn't think women are very intelligent. Smart, sure. To a point. Intelligent? Nope. Not as a whole. He has a very, very short list of women he thinks are truly intelligent. Charlotte Dupree is one of them. I'll add more as he finds them.
